S Club claim they were visited by late bandmate Paul Cattermole’s ‘spirit’ while shooting new music video

S Club have revealed the emotional moment when they were visited by Paul Cattermole’s ‘spirit’ while shooting their new music video.

The band are set to release their first single in 20 years, These Are The Days, on Wednesday.

While filming the accompanying music video, they explained they saw a butterfly that they believed was their late bandmate Paul, who died suddenly of heart issues in April at the age of 46.

Speaking to The Sun in their first interview, Tina Barrett, 46, said: ‘There was a butterfly. We were all sat down and a butterfly came from nowhere. It was a really bright, beautiful butterfly which flew down and went off. I don’t know why, but I just thought, “That’s Paul”. It came from nowhere.’

Rachel Stevens, 45, added: ‘There’s little signs of Paul everywhere. On the video shoot, there was a vinyl coaster and it said Good Times on it. That was his song.’

Bradley McIntosh, 41, chimed in to add that they had filmed on the hottest day which made him feel like Paul ‘gave us the sunshine’.

Jo O’Meara, 44, said: ‘Someone will always do a “Paul thing”. Especially on the music video when we got in the car for the very last scene, we were all saying, “He would have loved this car”. It’s just all silly little references every time we’re doing something. He’s definitely always around, which is nice.’

It comes after the pop group revealed they desperately tried to get in touch with Paul on the day he died after becoming concerned when he stopped replying to messages.

S Club were planning their UK comeback tour after a twenty year hiatus and were in regular contact.

They had all appeared together on a Zoom call on Monday, three days later Paul was found dead at his Dorset home.

Jo revealed fears grew as both S Club and their management were unable to get a hold of Paul, with his messages remaining unread on WhatsApp.

‘It was like, “Is he all right?” But then it was like, “Yeah it’s Paul. You know, sometimes he doesn’t answer his phone”,’ she told The Sun.

‘Then the next day I phoned him and messaged him. Everyone was trying to get hold of him . . . and no one could.’

Jo revealed both she and Jon Lee, 41, found out from their management first Paul had died.

‘I think I just went completely silent at first. It was awful. It was horrendous. It was just a complete shock,’ Jo said.

Jon said it ‘felt like someone had punched me in the stomach’.

Tina was at home watching TV with her son Roman when she picked up the call and said she didn’t believe it at first and says three months on she still can’t.

The group are now a five-piece after Hannah Spearritt’s decision to leave weeks after Paul’s death.

The group announced their 25th anniversary reunion in February and have now renamed it The Good Times Tour, after one of the tracks on which Paul had lead vocals.

Rachel said the band are now closer than ever and have bonded over their grief.

Jo added they feel it is important to remember Paul for the ‘goofy’ bandmate he was and will pay tribute to him in their tour, which kicks off in October.

‘The smiles have replaced the tears, in a really positive way,’ she said.

Tribute: The rest of the group (pictured together) have now decided to release These Are The Days in his memory, along with an emotional music video featuring clips of Paul

Paul was found at his Dorset home on the morning of Thursday April 6 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon, his family said the following day.

According a death certificate seen by The Express, coroners discovered Paul died from a ‘cardiac arrhythmia, acute myocardial ischaemia and severe coronary artery atheroma and intraplaque haemorrhage’.

According to The British Heart Foundation, an arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm that can that can affect the body’s ability to function.

The Mayo Clinic describes Myocardial ischemia as a condition which occurs when blood flow to your heart is reduced, preventing the heart muscle from receiving enough oxygen.

The coroner was informed of Paul’s death by his mother Linda.
