Netflix teases new season of Selling Sunset

Selling Sunset star Amanza Smith is back to star in the latest season of the hit Netflix reality show after the interior designer survived a life-threatening infection.

The 46-year-old has been candid with her fans on Instagram from the start of her worrying discovery in May.

Looking back, the Netflix star recognized that she had been enduring excruciating back pain, which turned out to be one of her first symptoms of a potentially deadly bone infection, but she thought nothing more of it.

However, after she collapsed in her Los Angeles home, the mother-of-two headed straight for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to get an MRI and doctors revealed she was just a few days away from death.

Opening up to People ahead of Selling Sunset’s seventh season release, Amanza shared that she had been diagnosed with vertebral osteomyelitis, a potentially fatal infection that doctors couldn’t determine a cause of.

She initially went under the knife in June to clear the infection from her lower back, but as the Hollywood star seemed to be on the road to recovery, the infection spread to an area in front of her spine “close to my aorta and my kidney”.

Amanza was prescribed an intense treatment of antibiotics, even requiring a PICC line in the hopes it would penetrate her bones, and the infection, in time otherwise her “entire back could collapse”.

She underwent a second surgery the next month to embed a titanium mesh cage in her back, as she jokingly refers to herself now as an “iron woman”.

However, Amanza still wasn’t out of the woods yet and has spent the last few months continuing her antibiotic treatments along with physical therapy and now has a myriad of physical restrictions.

She shared: “Sometimes my purse is too heavy.”

While the worrying ordeal has left Amanza with two major scars and will likely impact the rest of her life, she’s also learned a few valuable lessons.

She explained: “You know who your friends are when you become a burden. I will never take my mobility for granted again.”

Selling Sunset returns to Netflix on November 3.
