Shakira ‘leaves Barcelona for good’ so is ‘pettiest split in showbiz’ finally OVER? Gerard Pique’s father evicts singer from flat where she set up a witch to face her mother-in-law’s home – as she insists she is ‘ready for next chapter
Shakira is said to have left Barcelona for good after reportedly being served with an ‘eviction notice’ by her ex Gerard Pique’s dad Montserrat.
So is the pettiest split in showbiz finally over?
Spanish media say the singer, 46, received a letter telling her and her parents to abandon the ex-couple’s former family home after she performed her diss song targeting Pique and his new girlfriend on the Jimmy Fallon late-night show last month.
It’s the flat where Shakira famously set up a witch on her balcony to face her mother-in-law’s home, who lives next-door.
Speculation was mounting on Monday in Spain that the letter was the cause of the tears she was seen shedding in a New York store ahead of her return to Barcelona.

Shakira made no mention of the eviction order in the farewell message she posted on Instagram after being pictured leaving the Catalan capital with her two children to start a new life in Florida.
She is expected to enjoy a few days’ holiday in an undisclosed location with sons Milan, ten, and Sasha, eight, before they start at a private school just north of Miami on April 11.
The timing of Shakira’s move took most people by surprise, with April 1 having been signalled as one of the dates she was looking at.
But there was uncertainty surrounding the exact day she would leave Barcelona up until hours before her departure because of continuing questions about the health of her parents.
El Periodico and La Vanguardia both reported Shakira had been told on March 13 she had to leave the mansion in Esplugues de Llobregat where she has continued to live following her split last year from Pique by April 30 – or pay compensation.
El Periodico said she had received an email signed by her former partner’s father Joan Pique and La Vanguardia described it as a letter from the former footballer’s dad.
The house, where Shakira famously installed a witch on the balcony in an apparent jibe at Pique’s mum who lives next-door, is said to have been owned by the former couple in their names before becoming the property of a company called BCN Two & Two in September last year four months after the artist and ex-Barcelona defender announced their split.
Pique’s father shows up on Spanish Companies House as the sole director and its sole shareholder is said to be the former footballer’s holding company Kerad Holding.
Spanish media have not specified how much ‘compensation’ Shakira would have had to pay, as part of the agreement when the property ownership changed last September, if she hadn’t left by the end of this month.
El Periodico claimed: ‘Now we understand the photos of the singer crying.’

Shakira was pictured flying out of Barcelona on Sunday with her two children after bidding a tearful farewell to family and friends.
She posted an emotional message on Instagram coinciding with her departure, writing in her open letter which included a clear jibe at her ex: ‘I settled in Barcelona to give my sons stability, the same stability that we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea.
‘Today we begin a new chapter in the search for their happiness. Thanks to everyone who surfed so many waves with me there in Barcelona, the city where I learned friendship is undoubtedly longer than love.
‘Thanks to everyone there who encouraged me, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow.
‘Thanks to my Spanish fans who have always protected me with their love and loyalty.’
She went on to share a photo of a wing of the plane she left the Catalan capital on with Barcelona below it and added: ‘But things are not always how we dreamed them.
‘At times we run but we don’t arrive. Never doubt that I’m going to be here.’
Shakira and Pique, who split last May after 11 years together, confirmed in November they had reached a child custody agreement after a protracted negotiation which came to a head with a marathon 12-hour meeting with their lawyers.
They signed the accord at a court in Barcelona the following month.
As part of the agreement Pique, now dating 24-year-old Catalan beauty Clara Chia, will spend holiday time with his children.
Shakira’s wish to move to Miami, where she used to live and part of her family are based, is understood to have been the principal sticking point in the former couple’s previous failure to strike an out-of-court settlement.
The artist, who has relatives and several close friends in Miami, owns a £14 million mansion in the city she is said to have put up for sale in 2018 before removing it from the market a few months ago.
Late last month Spanish media claimed Shakira may have found love with a new man in Miami.
News website OK Diario said it had been told the mother-of-two met the mystery man several months ago before she penned her latest diss song targeting Pique and his new girlfriend Clara Chia.
The former Barcelona defender’s relationship with Clara Chia, who has just turned 24, emerged shortly after he and Shakira announced their split.
The singer-songwriter performed her diss track with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap, in which she fires poisoned darts at Pique and his new girlfriend, on the Jimmy Fallon late-night show on March 10. She went on to talk about her break-up with the former footballer.
Pique said in a subsequent interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais he was ‘very happy’ following the dramatic changes in his life which have included the split with Shakira and retirement from football.
He also shut down a question about Shakira in the interview but added: ‘Each parent has the responsibility to try to do the best for their children.
‘It’s about protecting them. That’s the work of all parents with their children. That’s what I’m focused on and that’s my job as a father.’
Pique’s lawyer Ramon Tamborero said in February, in his first public comments about the couple’s divorce negotiations: ‘They have made a great effort for the good of their children, making sure they weren’t the protagonists.
‘Both of them have shown great intelligence.’
In a surprise interview with respected Catalan daily La Vanguardia, father-of-two Mr Tamborero, 74, admitted of the talks that resulted in the agreement: ‘It required seven months of negotiations.
‘The agreement was complex and required preparatory meetings. And the decisive reunion before the signing lasted 13 hours.’
Leaving: The 46-year-old made no mention of the eviction order in the farewell message she posted on Instagram after being pictured leaving the Catalan capital with her two children to start a new life in Florida
New romance: Gerard and his new girlfriend Clara Chia have been on the receiving end of his ex’s barbs in diss songs the Colombian beauty has released since their break-up last year
Shakira will have to return to Barcelona for a £12 million tax fraud trial but no date for the trial has yet been set. She has denied any wrongdoing after being charged with six counts of tax fraud prosecutors say she committed between 2012 and 2014.
A source close to the singer said of her decision to move to Miami before the end of the school year, in quotes published by Catalan daily El Periodico: ‘Milan and Sasha have good grades and the teachers don’t see it as a problem.
‘The decision has been very carefully considered and Shakira feels very calm about things after the schools raised no objections.
‘If it was going to affect them negatively in any way, she wouldn’t have taken the decision to go to Miami now.’
