Victoria Mary Clarke reveals how she met Shane MacGowan

Shane MacGowan’s wife Victoria Clarke took to social media to share a sweet update from his hospital bed after he was visited by a number of his famous friends.

The Pogues frontman, 65, has reportedly been in hospital since June and was taken into intensive care last month for undisclosed reasons.

On Monday, Victoria shared a photograph of Shane looking in good spirits as he smiled widely from his hospital bed.

In the caption, she thanked Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie for dropping by Shane’s bedside.

She wrote: “Thank you #DanielODonnell and @ScreamOfficial Bobby G for visiting @ShaneMacGowan.

Victoria, who married Shane in 2018 after being together for around 30 years, said she was “immensely grateful” to the medical staff who have been caring for him.

On August 9, Victoria also thanked Imelda May for paying Shane a visit and lifting his spirits.

She tweeted: “Thank you so much to the beautiful @ImeldaOfficial for cheering up Shane MacGowan and giving us a sneak preview of your show about Kathleen Behan at the 3olympiatheatre,” along with love heart emojis and a thumbs up.

Victoria shared that folk singer Moya Brennan had also dropped by and contributed to a “boost in morale” for the Fairytale of New York singer.

Earlier this year, Shane confirmed he had been diagnosed with viral encephalitis – an inflammation of the brain caused by a virus.

Since then, he has had a number of hospital stays and contracted shingles while on the ward.

Victoria previously said that the ordeal had been “scary” but that an outpouring of support from fans had been a comfort.

She penned on Instagram to her 27,000 followers: “There has been a lot of turbulence in my life recently and it’s been very emotional and also scary.

“But this past few days I have noticed that even though there’s a LOT of fear there is also a huge amount of love and support and incredible blessings.

“I think that our minds can be VERY resistant to change and to having our lives shaken up and rearranged and we need to be very gentle and patient with ourselves…

“It’s a challenge to stay present with your feelings. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting me and @shanemacgowanofficial.”
