Shania Twain supports Celine Dion after ‘human statue’ diagnosis

Celine Dion cancels Summer 2023 shows after rare diagnosis

Music legend Shania Twain has spoken out on fellow vocalist Celine Dion’s recent health struggles with a neurological disorder.

The Feel Like a Woman hitmaker, 57, wished Celine well as she battles with Stiff Person’s Syndrome.

Back in December 2022, the 55-year-old revealed that she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune neurological disorder.

Stiff Person’s Syndrome causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms – with symptoms getting worse over time.

While speaking with Billboard, the country singer admitted that she admired Celine, saying: “I’m such a fan of Celine’s voice. She’s a one-of-a-kind, extraordinary vocalist and entertainer”.

Despite the singers crossing paths over the years, even performing together back in 1998, Shania admitted they haven’t met up in recent years.

“I hope to be able to connect with her at some point,” she shared.

She wished the long-time performer well adding: “I think it’s gotta be so difficult, and I know — only speaking from my experience — how horrifying it is to think that something is preventing you from singing, or interfering with that joy in your life.”

“So I just pray that she is able to overcome it and she will be up there [on stage] singing for us all again.”

Earlier this month, Celine’s sister, Claudette, spoke with Le Journal de Montreal and gave an update on the Grammy winner’s health.

She shared that their sister, Linda, moved into the singer’s home to assist in caring for her, alongside the singer’s three sons, René-Charles, Eddy, and Nelson.

Claudette, 74, said: “When I call her and she’s busy, I speak to my sister Linda who lives with her and tells me that she’s working hard. She’s listening to the top researchers in the field of this rare disease as much as possible”.

She further expressed that medical professionals have yet to find a medication that truly works for Celine.

Meanwhile, Shania has also battled health issues that briefly kept her from performing.

In 2011 she underwent open-throat surgery to combat nerve damage after her own battle with Lyme disease.

Back in 2003, she was horseback riding and that is when she contracted the disease after being bitten by a tick.
