Sherry Cola, Ally Maki & Debby Ryan Bring ‘Shortcomings’ to Sundance Film Festival

Sherry Cola, Ally Maki and Debby Ryan snap a cute group photo at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival premiere of their upcoming movie Shortcomings held at Eccles Center Theatre on Sunday (January 22) in Park City, Utah.

The ladies were joined by their co-stars Justin H Min and Timothy Simons, director Randall Park and his wife Jae Suh Park, and writer Adrian Tomine.

Shortcomings is based on a graphic novel by Adrian, and follows “a cynical movie theater manager Ben (Min) and his irrepressible best friend Alice (Cola). Together, the Bay Area urbanites navigate Ben’s disintegrating relationship with his girlfriend Miko (Maki), Alice’s serial-dating habits and other obstacles in the way of their personal growth.”

Ally shared a sweet Instagram post of hwo the movie came together, including the length of time it took to be made.

See what she said inside…

“The story of how Shortcomings came to be is so indicative of Randall’s conviction and steadfast heart. 15 years he spent committed to making this movie happen, so struck by the thought provoking and flawed characters that @adriantomine (my fellow Japanese American brother) had written,” she shared.

“[Randall] is a director who lets you play in the most freeing and fantastic of ways, while still staying committed to his exact vision and never straying from it. He’s one of the kindest people I know in this business and in life. Alongside the incredible @hieunho a longtime friend and creator of @imminentcollision,” she continued. “It’s my first time to @sundanceorg and I can’t imagine a better family to enter into this whirlwind with @shrrycola @justinmin + everyone who worked on this lil love fest. Here we come ✨ #Shortcomings @vanityfair @beccamford”
