Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, 62, has insisted she is “never anyone but herself” after she was slammed by one viewer on Twitter. The BBC star, who was compared to her fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood, 57, also chose to rise above a harsh swipe at her previous marriages.

Last night, Shirley excitedly shared a post with her 88,800 Twitter followers, as she prepared for a jam-packed episode to mark Strictly’s semi-finals.  

“It’s the @bbcstrictly semi final,” she wrote. “Are you all ready? Tune in now on BBC One. 

“Two dances each. It’s going to be a remarkable show. Enjoy and as always please remember to vote Xxx hugs.” (sic) 

Underneath the tweet, Shirley attached to photographs of herself dressed to the nines in a stunning golden gown.

The asymmetrical, ruffled garment featured some flattering pleating and an off-the-shoulder design. 

The dancing icon wore her hair in short, tight curls, accessorising with a sparkly headband and sparkling drop-down earrings. 

However, not everyone was impressed with Shirley, as Strictly viewer Barbara wrote: “What is up with you tonight Shirley trying too hard to be Craig.

“It doesn’t suit you but I read your book ! (And) according to you, marriage, dancing… Never your fault!” (sic) 

“I never be anyone but myself,” Shirley fired back. “I take my job seriously. Thank you for reading my book.”

Shirley’s partner Danny Taylor, 48, also jumped to Shirley’s defence, commenting: “No one does or knows their job better than you that’s for sure x.” (sic)

One fan of Shirley’s named Marcy replied: “Here here Danny, these novices, who’ve probably never danced in their lives. 

“I just call em trolls Danny. Shirley has lovely you and her dear mum. Always been a massive fan of Shirley’s. Have a lovely Christmas whatever you’re doing.” (sic)

The award-winning dancer, who was nicknamed “The Queen of Latin” after several championship titles, shares 36-year-old son Mark with her ex-husband.

However, in the past Shirley has revealed that the pair experienced some tough times in their marriage.

Shirley opened up about her failed marriage to Corky and how he controlled her diet in her autobiography, Behind the Sequins.

In one disturbing story, she described how her ex supposedly hid a cockroach under the chocolate icing of the doughnuts she craved while pregnant with her son to “save me from myself”. 

Express.co.uk contacted a representative for Corky for comment at the time.

Before Shirley wed Corky, she also described how she had endured a turbulent marriage with first husband Sammy Stopford, whom she married when she was just 17 years old.
