“Saturday Night Live” took a shot at Justin Timberlake during the show on February 20 for his “20 years late” apology to Britney Spears.
The comedy show did not just mention the #FreeBritney movement this time. It had Chloe Fineman playing Spears and taking a shot at Timberlake’s recent apology.
“Hey, ya’ll! It’s Britney, b—-!” Fineman says in the show, before explaining why she started doing her own apology show. “Basically I started this show, Oops, You Did It Again, so people could come on and apologize for things they’ve done wrong, because after the Free Britney documentary came out, I’m receiving hundreds of apologies a day.”
“I’d like to give a quick shout-out to our sponsor, the Notes app,” said Fineman as Spears. “Are you looking to post a lame apology 20 years late? Go through the motions with the Notes app.”
Timberlake apologized to Spears on February 12, about a week after the premiere of Framing Britney Spears documentary, for how he portrayed her after their 2002 split.
“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right,” Timberlake wrote in Notes and posted to Instagram.
“I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism,” he added. “I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”
