Strictly Come Dancing bosses AXE an ice-themed routine featuring the professionals and judge Craig Revel Horwood following the devastating Solihull lake tragedy

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have revealed they axed a performance by the professional dancers from Monday’s results show.

In a statement to MailOnline, a representative for the show confirmed the performance, which was filmed on Sunday, was removed from the final edit, and insiders claimed it was in the wake of the lake tragedy in Solihull.

Fans had taken to social media during Monday’s show to query why the results show did not feature its usual professional routine, which had been teased by host Tess Daly during Sunday’s live show.

A BBC spokesperson said ‘In light of tragic news events, we took the decision not to broadcast the group dance on this week’s results show.’

The performance was set to feature judge Craig Revel Horwood in full drag as a Snow Queen, and the professional dancers dressed as snowflakes.

A source had previously claimed bosses agreed to drop the routine after three boys were tragically killed after falling through a frozen lake.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Strictly knew they could not air the dance in light of the awful news from Solihull.

‘Naturally everyone on the show agreed and the decision was made not to air the performance.’

During Sunday’s live show, host Tess had teased the performance which would feature the professional dancers, and judge Craig Revel Horwood.

Many viewers were then confused when it was noticeably absent from the pre-recorded results.

One posted: ‘So what happen to the pro dance in #Strictly? Didn’t they tease that Craig was gonna be in it?’

Another added: ”Was anyone at #strictly last night? What happened to the pro dance with Craig?’

On Monday, it was revealed that three boys, aged eight, 10 and 11, died in hospital after being pulled from the freezing lake on Sunday, while a fourth, aged six, was fighting for his life in hospital.

One of the boys has been named as Jack Johnson, with his relatives saying he died after jumping into the lake to save the three others who had fallen from the ice.

It comes after Will Mellor couldn’t hide his emotion as he appeared alongside his dance partner Nancy Xu on Strictly’s It Takes Two  following the pair’s elimination.

The actor, 46, wiped away tears after watching a video of their ‘best bits’ on the show, as Nancy visibly broke down beside him.

Will and Nancy were the latest to be axed from the Strictly dancefloor  after going head-to-head against singer Fleur East, 35, and her professional partner Vito Coppola, 30, in the dance off.

Nancy, 31, began crying as she was interviewed by host Rylan Clark about her time on the show with Will before they were voted off during Monday’s show.

Former Hollyoaks star Will and Nancy performed their Couples’ Choice to a 90s Manchester-inspired medley during the tense dance-off.

While judge Anton Du Beke chose to put them through to the final, his fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas opted for Fleur and Vito to go through to the last round.

Strictly Come Dancing: The Final will air on Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7.05pm.
