Strictly Come Dancing in turmoil over fears Amanda Abbington may quit

Amanda Abbington shuts down feud rumours with Gio and says they ‘laugh a lot’

Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reported to be concerned that Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington will be forced to leave the show after she was unable to perform this weekend for medical reasons.

During Friday’s Strictly: It Takes Two, Janette Manrara confirmed Amanda and her pro partner Giovanni Pernice would not be performing on Saturday night due to medical reasons.

However, there was no further elaboration on this, and producers are now said to be worried that she will opt to leave the competition altogether as she “won’t be ready” to compete next week.

Her absence was addressed at the beginning of last night’s show as presenter Claudia Winkleman said: “Now as you may have noticed, Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the lineup. Due to medical reasons Amanda is unable to perform this week.”

Fellow presenter Tess Daly continued: “As per the rules of the competition she has been given a bye and all being well will return to the ballroom next weekend.”

However a report in The Sun claims that there is a possibility that she won’t be back in the show at all.

When contacted by Express.co.uk a Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson had no further update on the original statement about Amanda’s absence.

However, a source said: “The health and well-being of everyone involved in Strictly is production’s absolute priority.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Amanda Abbington’s representatives for comment.

This speculation comes after Amanda took to social media to share a poignant post about mental health just hours before this week’s Strictly live show.

She went to her Instagram stories to repost a quote to her 119,000 followers, but didn’t address the reason for her absence.

The post, which was originally shared by an account called @positiveminds011, featured an image of the late comedian Robin Williams.

It was accompanied by a quote that read: “People don’t fake depression… they fake being okay. Remember that. Be kind.”

Despite Amanda’s absence Giovanni still appeared on Saturday’s show and was all smiles.

This couple had been set to perform a Cha Cha Cha to the song Canned Heat by Jamiroquai.
