Strictly Come Dancing contestant AJ Odudu has taken to Instagram to document herself bravely cutting off her hair, two days before taking to the dancefloor with her dance partner Kai Widdrington. The star, 33, who was the third celebrity contestant to be announced for Strictly 2021, took to Instagram to record the occasion, which marked the end of her dance partner Kai cheekily using her braid to play air guitar with.
Playtime is over for Kai!
Arriving home from a long day of rehearsing, AJ took to Instagram to address her 103,000 followers.
“Honeys I’m home!,” she said, before adding: “and playtime is over for Kai, as the braid is going,” she said, while taking a pair of scissors to her braid and cutting through the hair.
Chopping through her long locks with some difficulty, AJ eventually held up the plaited braid which was tied together with a band, as well as a pair of blunt scissors, while branding them “rubbish” for the purpose.
Grinning from ear to ear, AJ said: “C**p scissors”, before likening her new look to that of a cartoon “troll” in the next slide.
AJ had previously recorded a TikTok with Kai playing with her hair to the tune of The Black Eyed Peas song Pump It, joking that her “hair was learning how to dance”.
Earlier in the day the TV presenter told how she and Kai had just finished their last dance before training in the studio tomorrow.
Addressing her followers, AJ said: “Guys, this is it!”
“AJ, get off your phone!” Kai could be heard saying, jokingly reprimanding his dance partner.
“Oh shut up Kai!” she laughed, before adding: “It’s our last dance.”
“It’s our last rehearsal in the training room before we hit the studio tomorrow,” AJ clarified.
“Are you excited?” she asked her dance partner
“This is our last dance before our first dance… you like that?” Kai joked.
Confused, AJ replied: “No, but it’s not though.
“We’re going to do it again in the studio aren’t we?” Asked AJ, before Kai grabbed her waist-length ponytail and started playing air guitar on it.
Following their rehearsals, AJ posted a clip of her Strictly partner intently watching their routine back to help her improve.
Last week, the TV personality opened up about what she feared the most about appearing on the show.
As well as admitting that she’s scared of falling down the famous staircase, AJ said she’s concerned about having a serious wardrobe malfunction.
When asked what rules she gave herself to follow before signing up to the show, she said: “Step 1, don’t fall down the stairs.
“Step 2, don’t have a wardrobe malfunction.
“These are very important milestones,” AJ explained.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
