Strictly’s Kym Marsh knew it ‘wouldn’t work out for her’ if Graziano clashed with her family

Kym Marsh has made Strictly a family affair from the off and couldn’t wait to introduce her dance partner Graziano to her husband Scott Ratcliff and parents Pauline and David during a break from training.

But having her dad in the audience to watch her dance has been made even more poignant for Kym, 46, as she revealed she wants to make him proud. He was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer last summer and now Kym, who’s incredibly close to both her parents, says she’s doing the show for them.

“Kym’s family are her best friends and her biggest supporters, so it was really important for her to introduce them to Graziano,” a source said. “If he didn’t get on with her family then she knew the show wouldn’t work out for her. He is part of her family now.”

And luckily for Kym, Graziano, 28, said meeting her family was “the best day ever” and he has “found my second family”.

Kym revealed it was her dad who gave her the push to do the show in the first place. She explained, “My dad has been telling me for years, you never know what’s around the corner. you just grab it while you can. My dad was diagnosed with cancer and now I’m just trying to do everything I can while he’s here, so he can join in and everything.”

In her first week, Kym was disappointed to be branded "sluggish" by notoriously tough judge Craig Revel Horwood who went on to give her a 4. Addressing the situation of Morning Live following her performance, Kym said "I mean, obviously it's disappointing, isn't it, because we did work very hard."

She went on: "But you've gotta take it on the chin and accept the comment and move forward with it, so we have taken on board what he said."

Her partner Graziano added: "We're gonna take it on board and work harder, but listen, she's a diamond. She's been working so hard. I think she was brilliant, I think she was genuinely brilliant. And to open Strictly 2022…trust me, I'm a professional dancer, I was shaking."

He added: "She was perfect, she was dancing by herself. I couldn't be more proud of that."
