Strictly’s Shirley Ballas suffers gruesome mishap days before show return

Shirley Ballas cuts thumb while juicing

Shirley Ballas revealed she suffered a gruesome injury after slicing her thumb just days before the start of the new series.

The Strictly judge shared a video on Instagram of herself standing in the kitchen with a bandaged hand.

Taking to the social media app, the 63-year-old appeared wearing yoga clothes in her kitchen and revealed how the incident happened.

She said: “Juicing today and look what I did. Nearly sliced off my thumb with this bad boy. Be careful when you’re juicing and when you’re washing up.”

In the footage, she showed her right hand covered in blood whilst holding it over her kitchen sink. She also gestured to the sharp juice machine blade which cut her thumb.

In the second clip, Shirley revealed that her mum, Audrey, had helped bandage up her thumb.

Shirley went on: “Morning so far. Yoga, cleaning flowers, juicing, cutting up thumb. Bandage on thumb that my mother has decided that she would do for me. So, we’ll have to see. It’s quite deep but let’s see how this holds up. Be careful juicing.”

The incident comes shortly after three celebrity stars have been hit with injuries ahead of the opening weekend.

Sherlock star Amanda Abbington shared images of blood blisters on her Instagram profile a few days ago, whilst former Love Island contestant Zara McDermott has also suffered a foot injury during rehearsals.

Waterloo Road star Adam Thomas confessed that he was “in pain” and “struggling” after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

Adam said: “I’m not in the best shape of my life, but I could be worse.

“This year has been tough there’s no doubt about that… but I’ve just got to stay focused now! I’m still struggling and the pain is still there but I’m putting on a brave face I’ve got to stay strong.”

Meanwhile, Amanda blamed her blisters on her dancing shoes.

She told her followers: “Dancing in heels, when you absolutely aren’t a dancer, is clearly a blister minefield but, moreover, very much a young man’s game… however, onwards.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One on Saturday 16th September at 6.45pm.
