The Wire star Lance Reddick dies just days before release of new John Wick film

Actor Lance Reddick, who starred in the popular HBO series The Wire, has tragically passed away aged 60, his publicist has announced.

Lance's publicist Mia Hansen shared the tragic news in a statement, which read: "Acclaimed actor Lance Reddick passed away suddenly this morning from natural causes. Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time."

The sad news comes just days before the release of Lance's latest film, John Wick: Chapter 4, in which he reprised the role of Charon, who had portrayed in series prior three films.

Lance was also set to appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show later this week, and has a number of unreleased projects, including the upcoming Disney+ series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, in which he plays the Greek God Zeus.

Those who worked with and knew Lance have shared messages of condolence online, with American filmmaker and screenwriter James Gunn leading the way, with: "Lance Reddick was an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor.

"This is heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends, and collaborators.

Actor Ben Stiller also shared a tribute, writing: "Lance Reddick was an beautiful and compelling actor. And a beautiful person.

"He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play 'Afterplay' playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did. Nothing is lost."

Fans of the actor have been quick to share their sadness at his passing, with many taken to social media.

One fan wrote: "Unable to formulate how saddened i am by this news. rest in peace Lance Reddick, you will be remembered."

"Rest in peace to Lance Reddick an incredible actor with an amazing body of work. He lent his amazing and unique voice, both literally and artistically, to many different projects and characters over his career" shared another.

And a third added: "Lance Reddick was one of one. It doesn’t get better than his performance as Lt. Daniels in The Wire, he will be missed."

Lance shot to fame for his portrayal of fictional Baltimore Police Department officer Cedrick Daniels in all five seasons of the popular HBO series The Wire.

He also made appearances on several other popular television shows such as Fringe, Bosch, Oz, and Lost.

Alongside his numerous TV appearances Lance was also a star of the big screen, appearing in all four John Wick films, and numerous other movies including Angel Has Fallen and Godzilla Vs. Kong.
