After her partner of 17 years, Ben Ofoedu cheated on her, Vanessa Feltz was left utterly heartbroken. But while it might look to the outside world that she's happier than ever, she exclusively revealed to us that isn't necessarily the case.

When we catch up for a chat and say she looks incredible, the 61-year-old sighs and admitted her recent glow is, unfortunately, down to the "broken heart diet."

She said: "I do not recommend it to anybody. I’d much rather be fatter and happier than thinner and miserable."

And although she's aware of people commenting on her transformation, it didn't happen because she wanted it.

"People might say “well done” on my weight loss but I just felt so sick in my heart that I didn’t want to eat anything," Vanessa continued.

"And for me, that’s bloody unusual. I’d normally be reaching for an éclair. It’s not something I’d wish upon anyone."

But, Vanessa, who has recently joined Celebs Go Dating, also admitted that to help move on from a broken heart is to keep busy and surround yourself with distractions.

She said: "I think it’s important to have excitement in your life. Whether it’s someone’s birthday, a party or a day out, looking forward to something is what human beings need."

The mum-of-two then discussed how this horrible period of her life has actually made her realise how 'lucky' she is to be surrounded by close family and wonderful friends.

"This period of my life has also shown me how lucky I am because it turns out I’ve got a lot more friends than I ever realised," she continued.

"People have been fantastically supportive and kind; from those I’ve known for years to even members of the public, everyone has just been incredible."

Vanessa also paid credit to followers on Instagram who send her "messages" of kindness' every day.

"Things have been remarkable on Instagram. I’ve turned off my comments because I don’t think I’m quite strong enough yet to go through those, but I do get thousands of messages every day from people showing kindness.

"It’s been absolutely astounding. I’m very, very lucky."
