15 of the best Christmas gifts for gardeners – including 5 under a fiver – The Sun | The Sun

IF you’re anything like me, and didn’t spent the last 12 months carefully curating presents for the greenfingered Goddess/God in your life, then fear not.

Here at Sun Gardening, I appreciate what a challenge it is to get the perfect gift, so I’ve done the hard work for you – spending the last year trying and testing a whole range of products for your outside space.

These top ten gifts filled me with more joy than a summer’s day in June.

These luxury leather water resistant gloves are soft and smooth and stretch to fit your hand the more you use them. In short, they’re Hollywood when it comes to prick prevention. Plus an added bonus of an extended cuff, to avoid the classic ‘wrist ripped apart by roses’ look.

LEARN!

Q. The flowers on my Kalanchoë are fading. If I remove the dead flowers will that encourage the plant to continue flowering through the winter months? James Thompson, Sunderland.

A. Kalanchoes normally have only one flowering period – which lasts a few months – and then the flowers fade and fall in order for the plant to focus on growing new buds. But experts claim you can force it into flower by only giving it eight or so hours of light a day, putting it in a cupboard for the rest of the time.  You could see buds in 6-8 weeks. Best of luck!
