There was more to Marilyn than her busty figure, unforgettable face and blonde bombshell persona.

Born Norma Jeane Mortenson, on June 1, 1926, Marilyn was the daughter of Gladys Pearl Baker and had no father figure in her life.

Although her early childhood was stable and happy, her mother's mental and financial unstable situations soon led her to become a ward of the state, before being taken into foster care – although her mother regularly visited her.

Marilyn once stated that it was her childhood experiences that pushed her to become an actress.

''Dreaming about being an actress is more exciting than being one''

Marilyn was quoted saying this in 1947.

At that time, two years before her breakout into stardom, she had managed to score a few modelling gigs and film roles.

This was long before her career decline in the early 1960s and strongly echoes her thoughts on fame.

In her final interview, in July 1962, the Hollywood legend confessed to finding fame "bizarre."

She said to LIFE Associate Editor Richard Meryman: "When you're famous, you kind of run into human nature in a raw kind of way. It stirs up envy, fame does."

"Sometimes things fall apart, so that better things can fall together''

This quote represents positivity during tough times.

And given the many challenges Marilyn experienced in her personal life, this inspirational quote feels particularly poignant.
