‘Elegant but doesn’t divert attention’ Princess Kate’s best dresses

Research carried out by fashion experts Karen Millen has analysed Google Trends data from the last year to find out which of Kate’s dresses have been the most influential in 2022. The experts looked at which dresses had been Googled the most over the last few months.

The most popular dress worn by Kate this year was the black Alexander McQueen coat dress, donned to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September.

The dress can be crowned as the most influential as searches for it skyrocketed 233 percent above the average searches for the term “Kate Middleton dress”, following the funeral.

Alexander McQueen is one of Kate’s favourite brands, especially having worn a Sarah Burton-designed wedding dress on her big day.

The coat dress she donned for the late monarch’s funeral featured a collar, a fitted waist, and a slightly pleated skirt that billowed outwards. An elegant garment, Kate paired it with pearl jewellery and a hat.

Her hat was wide-brimmed and featured a veil that covered her face. Her brunette locks were tied back in a neat, low bun, and her make-up stood out: she wore dark eyeshadow and eyeliner, and her dark eyebrows were coloured in.

Kate paired the coat dress with black stilettos and sheer black tights. Her jewellery pieces were from the Queen’s collection and were a pair of pearl drop earrings and a pearl choker.

The Princess of Wales’ second most popular dress this year was very different to the first. It was a summer dress, worn on her and Prince William’s visit to Belize in March.

The dress, called ‘Painted Roses’ from American designer Tory Burch, featured a floral pattern, with the blue, red and white detailing representing the Belize flag. The dress saw searches for “Kate Middleton dress” soar a huge 203 percent above average.

Kate’s third most influential dress of the year was similar to the first – all black and worn to honour the Queen. The Princess was seen donning the dress while she walked around Windsor Castle with her husband, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

The long-sleeved black dress, designed by Jenny Packham, caused searches to spike 173 percent above average.

Kate paired the dress with pearl earrings, black heels, and black tights – an outfit that was simple yet elegant and respectful.

Kate’s fourth most popular dress of 2022 was the stunning off-the-shoulder gown she wore to the Top Gun film premiere in London, back in May.

Designed by Roland Mouret, Kate styled the flattering black and white evening gown with black pumps, diamond-encrusted earrings, and an Alexander McQueen black box clutch.

The Princess’ long hair was slicked back behind her ears and fell on her back in a pin-straight style. She completed the look with eyeliner and shiny lipgloss.

Next on the list, the fifth most popular dress, was Kate’s fuschia pink Stella McCartney piece she wore to the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, with searches rising 127 percent above average back in June.

Kate’s custom dress featured a mid-length skirt, padded shoulders and long, slightly puffy sleeves, which she paired with statement earrings.

A spokesperson for Karen Millen told Express.co.uk: “Ever since her introduction into the Royal Family, Kate Middleton has made a vast impression on the fashion industry, well known for her timeless style and sophisticated outfits. These findings demonstrate Kate’s ability to inspire fashion choices up and down the country, with the British public rushing to take inspiration from her tasteful wardrobe.

“This research also highlights Kate’s enduring and admirable ability to discreetly use her elegant style to compliment the events she attends, yet not divert too much attention away from the main focus of the occasion.”
