How Carol Vorderman is ageing backwards and her smart secrets to looking better in her 60s than her 20s | The Sun

CAROL Vorderman has been a staple on our TV screens for an astounding four decades, with shows like Loose Women and Better Homes to her name.

But it’s Carol’s knack with numbers on Countdown that she’s best known for – and she’s become an expert at rolling them back when it comes to her age too.

In 1982, aged just 21, Carol made her very first appearance on the box on Channel 4’s Countdown alongside colleague and firm friend Richard Whiteley.

But despite it being 41 years ago, the star – now 62 – somehow looked older than she does today, thanks to a dated perm and suit and tie combo.

Carol and her fast sums soon caught the attention of viewers, and she went on to enjoy an amazing 26 years on the show, eventually leaving in 2008.

This led to Carol becoming a household name and one of the most in-demand presenters on the box, and she landed an anchor job on ITV’s lunchtime series Loose Women in 2011, which she starred on until 2014.

Other gigs included a presenting stint on 2013 ITV series Food Glorious Food, and as a contestant in 2020’s The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off.

Meanwhile, she showed viewers another side to herself as she took part in shows such as Strictly Come Dancing in 2004 and both 2016 and this year’s I’m a Celeb.

Now, aged 62, Carol’s career is still thriving. Most recently, she’s been on the box on Steph’s Packed Lunch and she continues to bring her warmth to the annual televised Pride of Britain awards.

Carol’s also become the epitome of sexy at sixty, managing to look decades younger than her sixty two years – and even turning back the clock since her TV debut.

So what are the secrets behind the mum-of-two’s age-defying appearance?

And just how does she get that award-winning bum (she’s the first and only celebrity to win UK Female Rear of the Year twice) that could even rival Kim Kardashian’s?

Here we chart Carol’s tips and tricks, as we reveal what she’s said about everything from fitness to beauty.

WHAT ARE CAROL’S FITNESS SECRETS?

As mentioned, Carol’s enviable curves are quite literally award-winning, and the presenter has been very open about how she incorporated fitness into her life at a slightly later stage.

The Welsh-born star regularly shares videos of herself working up a sweat in the gym, including core exercises, like planks and squats.

But she said as she’s got older, weight training has been a total game changer and she’s learnt the ropes with the help of a personal trainer.

She previously explained: “I do keep fit. I started with a new trainer, a rugby captain in Wales and we have a good laugh.

“He’s pushing me harder now with weights. It’s the weights you need as you get older because I’m quite happy with my body weight.”

Just earlier this month on her Instagram account, Carol posted a video of herself doing pull-ups in a gym session.

I promise I haven’t had bottom implants

The TV star – who is also a keen walker and says she’s up and down the 65 stairs in her house all the time – wrote alongside the post: “Friday gym… getting stronger.

“Always been too weak for full press-ups and pull-ups so started training for those now.

“And the splits – need a new party trick.”

When Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes responded that Carol seemed to train more than her and that she was inspired to up her game, Carol responded: “Lol, hardly! BUT I love it Kelly. Genuinely hooked.”

She added: “Makes you feel better and stronger about literally everything.”

As for her rear? After much speculation, Carol previously stated: “I promise I haven’t had bottom implants. It’s the same old bottom.

“In my family, loads of us have it: the Vorderman A**e. My daughter Katie has it. My nephew has it. We’re all sticky-out-bottom people.”

WHAT ARE CAROL’S DIET SECRETS?

Carol has previously confessed she has no idea what she weighs, as she threw out her scales in 1999 and has never looked back.

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to maintain her body, which includes a healthy eating regime and twice yearly detoxes to boost her health.

In her 2001 book, Detox your Life, she said: “The detox is not about counting calories or fat units, it's about being aware of the kinds of foods we put into our bodies. It's about eating more, not less”.

In other books of hers, she’s said favourites include tuna Nicoise salad, or a leafy green salad for lunch, while she’s been known to whip up seafood and vegetable dishes for dinner.

Carol has also spoken about following intermittent fasting from time to time – the practice of leaving a long gap between meals, which promotes fat burning.

She’s also a huge fan of juicing and attends Jason Vale’s infamous Juice Master Retreats in Portugal.

I'm doing this intermittent fasting thing

While there, guests are given nutritious juices, smoothies or soups to enjoy, as well as an array of activities like yoga and meditation.

In 2022, Carol explained why she loved the retreat so much, as she unveiled the results of an 18-day retreat, where she drank juice for 15 days and ate out the other three.

Branding it a “special” place, she wrote: “I’ve dropped over a dress size and am bursting with energy.

“Haven’t been into these shorts for a few years, and now they’re loose. Boommmm.”

However, she also won’t deprive herself, as she previously explained that after intermittent fasting she likes nothing more than a hearty fry-up.

In a past social media post, she said: “So I'm doing this intermittent fasting thing. I've gone 20 hours without food, not felt a little bit hungry.

“And I'm now having proper bacon – not the rubbish kind – and fresh, fresh, local eggs, everything local and I can't wait.”

WHAT ARE CAROL’S HAIR AND BEAUTY SECRETS?

Even when make-up free in the gym, Carol’s skin is positively glowing.

This could be partly down to the fact she begins her day with a variety of vitamins and supplements, including vitamins A and D, omega 3, fish oils, calcium, probiotics and cider vinegar.

Her make-up artist has also shared what essentials she uses on Carol’s face – including a skincare favourite.

Lauren O'Donnell said: “We've been using a lot of Charlotte Tilbury – her dry face mask, £18 is great.

“I've been using The Teoxane Deep Repair Balm, £19.99, as a moisturiser this week, as well as Chanel Le Lift Eye Cream, £66, to help Carol's skin combat tiredness from the early mornings too.”

Meanwhile, Carol recently explained that there might be another reason she looks younger now than when she was on Countdown.

She was recently quoted as saying: “I have Botox and a lot of treatments to my face and neck. Everyone does.”

But she added: “It would be less important if I weren’t on telly, but it’s part of the job.”

And when it comes to her hair, Carol has had a lot of changing looks – from a cropped perm to longer locks.

She previously revealed she’s worn hair extensions to make her hair look thicker and has swapped her brunette do for blonde, proving that blondes really do have more fun.

WHAT ARE CAROL’S STYLE SECRETS?

The down-to-earth presenter has come a long way since dowdy, oversized suits and a musical print tie.

Today, Carol favours figure-hugging dresses and high-waisted trousers and top combos, which she had admitted help give her a more distinct silhouette.

Speaking about her style evolution, Carol previously shared how she’d learnt through the years.

And her number one tip for other women? “Show off your good bits and don’t stress about the bits you don’t like so much, because that is just a waste of time.”
