I bought the £500 Dyson Airwrap & I think it's such a rip-off, it doesn't do anything & my curls last for seconds | The Sun

IT'S the most talked about hair styling tool of the decade – the viral Dyson Airwrap.

But despite the hefty price of almost £500, one beauty enthusiast claimed the device is a rip-off and has urged people to not waste their money on it.

Infuriated, the social media user Maria (@xonotmariaxo) took to TikTok to vent about the pricey purchase.

''I want public apology from every single influencer that told us to buy the Dyson.

''For $600, that thing should give me perfect hair.

''It doesn't. It doesn't work,'' she claimed in her video.

According to Maria, who insisted she had read the instructions, the expensive hair tool's not designed for those with thick locks, such as hers.

''It doesn't fully dry it. I walk out into the humidity and two seconds later, my hair's frizzy.''

Maria, whose clip has been viewed more than 310k times, said she shouldn't be having to rely on mousse and various styling products if she's forking out a fortune as it is.

''I should not have to use any of those things.Because I don't have to use any of those things when I'm using a straightener, a curler, the Revlon blow dryer.

The review divided people on social media – whilst some reckoned she had simply been using it incorrectly, others said their experience had been the exact same.

''Yes yes yes !!! Finally someone said it !!!! Yesssss!!!'' one viewer exclaimed.

Someone else added: ''Facts. I tried and returned it the some day. It doesn’t hold the curls.

''With a curler my curls last up to one week.''

A third agreed with Maria and said: ''I don’t trust influencers anymore bc of this very fact.''

A fellow shopper commented: ''I have fine hair and it makes it look like I’ve been riding in the back of a high speed boat on a lake full of grease.''

If you like Maria have been left disappointed with the device and you're still on the lookout for a less expensive one, there's a dupe that shoppers have been raving about.

The Mermade Blow Dry Brush is an incredible Dyson Airwrap Dupe that will only set you back £50.

A more affordable option when compared to Dyson's £450 price tag.

Described as giving you the "lightest blow dry with incredible power", it uses the same technique to dry and smooth your hair to give you a gorgeous blow out.

With three heat settings, low, medium and high and powerful 1200W, it also boasts a lightweight design at only 300g – so no achey arms.

It features a 60mm oval barrel for gorgeous curve and volume, and ionic technology "helps to seal the hair cuticle".

The unique oval brush helps to give extra volume, for a salon fresh blow dry at home, whether you're drying or refreshing your style.

Both use hot air flowing through the tool to style and dry at the same time without using extreme heat, and giving beauty fans that much desired blow dry look.

Reviewers love it too with one saying "I cannot believe it has taken me this long to purchase these. I have short hair and they work perfect and gives an amazing finish."

Another added "Love love loovvveee! So quick and easy for an every day hair style. I don't always have time to straighten/curl my hair so this is perfect for me.

''I can brush, dry and style my hair all at once. Most mornings I just run this over my already dried hair just to create volume and make my hair look 'done.

''Takes half the time now to do my hair on a busy weekday morning.''

To use you prep your hair by parting into sections, and using heat protectant.

You then "place the oval Mermade Blow-Dry Brush near the root and brush away from your head while gently rotating it" – and if you want to create curls, you wrap the hair around the barrel and hold it there for a few seconds before releasing it.

Finish the look with hairspray – of course.
