I couldn’t afford to transform my kitchen so did it myself in 48 hours using YouTube – it only cost £80 | The Sun

A WOMAN has revealed how she couldn’t afford to renovate her kitchen so decided to get creative.

Libbie O'Carroll, 27, from Cardiff, saved herself hundreds of pounds doing the work herself using simple tricks she learnt on YouTube.

Libby wanted to give her kitchen a refreshing makeover after living there for five years and decided to challenge herself and give it a go herself with these simple DIY tricks.

What would have been around £500 to be done professionally, Libbie managed to spruce her kitchen up for just £80 by buying her materials from B&M and The Range to redecorate and teaching herself the skills to do it.

Teaching herself how to vinyl wrap, spray paint and repaint her cupboards, cafe worker Libbie, who lives in a rented end terrace house didn't want to pay out for someone else to do it and had got her inspiration from TikTok home accounts and learnt the techniques from YouTube videos.

She explains: "I didn’t want to spend money on someone else doing it, I was looking at around £500 for someone else to do it and I did it for £80.

"I kept seeing things on TikTok as I follow lots of interior design pages, and I saw videos of drawers being wrapped and thought I would try it. I also have a unit in the kitchen with a burn mark on so I wanted to cover it.

"I moved into the house five years ago, I used to do canvassing and decorating but I had stopped doing it, and then started doing little bits of decorating again.

“This took three hours to wrap and was the hardest part.

"It was my first attempt at DIY and I think it went well. People think it's done by a professional I can't believe I did it myself.

"People online love it, one or two don’t like the colour and were telling me not to change the marble, but so many people were asking where the products are all from.

"It took me just one day to do and I couldn’t stop once I started, I did it all alone.

"Anyone can do it if you watch the right tutorials, so I found it easy.

"The only thing that was annoying were the bubbles in the vinyl, lotto bits of dirt and dust would get underneath but I found a hack to put a pin in it and pop the bubbles.

"I'm obsessed with everything being black, I wanted to redecorate the kitchen and now I'm ready to do the whole house.

"I'm lucky my landlord is relaxed, they said I could decorate how I wanted to."
