I go to Heidi Klum's annual Halloween party – she's always late and there's a little-known reason her costumes are best | The Sun

HEIDI Klum's annual Halloween parties are becoming just as famous as the guests who attend.

One of her friends has lifted the curtain on what happens at the star-studded party, and how Heidi often slips in unnoticed as her costumes are so dramatic.

The supermodel is known for going all out with her costumes at the ghoulishly glam event.

Hilary Latos, a media entrepreneur, has been to almost every invite-only soiree since Heidi first introduced her haunted bash in 2000.

"My first ever party with Heidi was in 2002 when she was dressed as Betty Boop," Hillary shared exclusively with The U.S. Sun.

"People come in insane costumes. Heidi's is always the craziest, it's like out of a Hollywood movie.

"The whole night is mostly just a buildup to seeing Heidi – it becomes a guessing game of what she is going to be dressed as.

"She always comes really late and no-one has any idea, so it's always the biggest anticipation of the night."

Hillary, who usually attends the spookiest event of the social season dressed as a leopard – or in her recycled drummer girl outfit – recalls one year when no one even realized the host had already arrived.

She said: "She was geriatric Heidi, and everyone kept looking around for her because they didn't know that she was there.

For the lucky non-celebs to be invited, it's also a Met gala type waiting game to see what other celebrities are going to wear.

Hilary said: "I've seen everyone. Mariah Carey, Blake Lively, Julia Fox.

"There are have been unique and outlandish outfits, but I don't think anyone has ever come close to Heidi's costumes.

"I also don't think anyone would dare upstage her."

Since her first ever ghoulish gala 23 years ago, the queen of Halloween just keeps outdoing herself ever since.

In 2016, the model duplicated herself by bringing five other models to dress like her.

The model's transformed looks over the years have included a Thriller era Michael Jackson, sexy red haired cartoon vixen Jessica Rabbit, and the blue Marvel character Mystique from X-Men.

Only Heidi could go from Victoria's Secret angel to the ogre version of Fiona from Shrek.

Last year, Heidi hid her model looks underneath a giant worm costume, attached to a fishing pole carried by her musician husband Tom Kaulitz.

The almost too realistic look covered her legs and arms and curled underneath the bottom.

And turning a supermodel into a slimy creepy crawly was no small matter.

The planning took two years – and a Halloween glam dream team.

Her special effects team included makeup artist Mike Marino and his team at Prosthetic Renaissance.

Heidi's golden rule when it comes to creating her costume – never say no to her vision.

The 50-year-old America's Got Talent judge was fully-cocooned in a prosthetic shell with special effects face piece so that her own face would blend in, with only her eyes and mouth showing.

During the night, she ditched the constricting costume and changed into a barely there bodysuit with rows of sparkles so that she could properly party with her guests.

Those attendees included Coco Austin and Ice-T, who wore matching vampire costumes, while singer Kim Petras appeared to be the mythical Krampus creature with horns.

Sports Illustrated model Brooks Nader put her own twist on Julia Roberts' iconic streetwalking character in Pretty Woman, while Julia Fox brought Where the Wild Things are to life.

Where does one host a Halloween party worthy of a supermodel and her pals?

"It's always been at a different venue since I first started going, but over the past decade or so, it's continuously been at a Tao Group property in New York," said Hillary.

"I've been to the Moxy Hotel, Lavo, Cathedrale, and Capitale."

And she certainly couldn't forget the most memorable Heidi bash of all time – when the model hosted Halloween in December.

"It was like Halloween meets Christmas. She even came accompanied with Santa Claus. It was totally surreal."

And it wasn't because Heidi forgot to send out her invites that year.

"It was back in 2012, a few months after Hurricane Sandy. I think she didn't want to seem insensitive."

Still, the Halloween show must go on – at least in Heidi land.

Dressed as Cleopatra, the German-born model still reigned over her subjects as she kept the spooky spirit alive that year.

Hillary recalled picture booths, and of course, lots of dancing.

But it wasn't all fun and ghoulish games.

Proceeds raised during the night went to the Red Cross.

And the fun continued all night with musical group Questlove dressed as slutty Questlove.

What else can mere mortals expects during the hallowed night of creepy costumes and cocktails?

"Every year there are different sponsors, so the feel of the event and the alcohol served varies," said the partygoer.

"There's always an open bar until midnight, with Halloween themed cocktails.

"Starting around 12am, promoters can start selling tables.

"I usually have my own table so I can watch what's going on.

"People are dancing all night, it's one big party. You can feel the excitement from all of the anticipation.

"At the end of the night, people just want to let loose.

"It's a mix of VIPs, celebrity guests, Heidi's friends, media, sponsors, and their guests."

Hillary also described the performance art that sometimes takes place.

"In 2019, a mad scientist conducted an experiment on a girl chained to a bed. There was also a really frightening film being show to go along with it and special effects," she explained.

She said every year there are about 200 people that come to revel at the private party.
