I lost 150 lbs – men never wanted to date me when I was ‘fat,’ but they say I’m ‘so pretty now’ | The Sun

BEFORE losing weight, an influencer said she faced rejection from men and cruel commentary from others.

Now, she's lost weight and gained the confidence to brush off the passive-aggressive remarks she hears instead.

Lex Hess (@lex_hess) opened up about her weight loss journey in a series of two videos on her page.

In the first, she recounted the heartbreaking interactions that drove her to make a change in the first place.

Hess shared a series of videos and snapshots from the past, when she was 150 pounds heavier.

A voiceover and captions recounted a common experience for Hess at the time.

"Would you date her?" Hess wrote in the caption, recreating a hypothetical conversation.

The response, she said, was, "No, she's fat."

"That, um…that hurt, you know?" the voiceover continued. "And I think that flipped a switch in me."

When the voiceover and caption mentioned a "flipped switch," the clips of Hess changed dramatically.

Now, they all featured Hess, visibly smaller, in workout gear, getting shredded at the gym.

She was open about how striking the video was. "This made me emotional," Hess confessed in the video description.

To lighten the mood, she danced and acted silly in another video, complete with neon lighting and club music.

Hess titled this video "Things guys have said to me since I've lost 150 pounds."

She did a handful of exaggerated dance moves as the "compliments" appeared on the screen.

"Oh wow, you don't look like you used to be big," one said.

Another told her, "OMG you're so pretty now."

One even said, "That's why you have such a good personality."

In the comment section, Hess said she's still in contact with the man who made the "good personality" comment.

"The guy that said this to me still Facetimes every now and then and apologizes," she wrote.

Other viewers agreed that the rude comments were the most annoying aspect of losing weight.

"The 'You look so pretty now' is just a backhanded compliment," one woman wrote. "Like what I wasn’t pretty before?"
