I made a DIY airconditioning unit for under $10 – bottles of water are the key | The Sun

SWELTERING conditions have led to some ingenuity from one DIY fan.

He made an air conditioning unit for under $10 and bottles of water were key to his design.

This TikToker's need lived up to the old saying that necessity was the mother of invention.

Uncharted Customs (@unchartedcustoms) had been trying to keep cool as temperatures soared.

But he needed a quick solution and a cheap one too.

It also didn't require a huge amount of DIY skills.

This personal AC unit was of basic construction and could be achieved by even the most inept.

“Make your own personal air conditioning unit for under $10," he said in his post.

All he used was a foam cooler for $2, a PVC pipe for $2, and a desk fan for $5.

Using a Stanley knife, he marked out the holes where the fan and pipes should be inserted.

Next came his magic touch: “Fill cooler with frozen bottles or jugs," he said.

Then voila! “Power on and watch as it recycles hot air into much cooler air."

To one commenter who doubted its usefulness, he had this to say: "Not going to cool your house. That’s why it says personal AC."

But there were many more who were grateful for his life hack.

“I’m doing this for my room so my dogs don’t overheat this summer. I hope it works well," said one person.

A second person wrote: “Thank you so much. I’m trying this visiting my family in Arizona.”

A third commenter has been suffering in hot conditions: “MY AC has been off and on for a whole month but for the last four days nothing. So I’m going to try this.”
