A MUM-OF-THREE has sparked a huge debate online after sharing how she teaches her kids to budget.
Jess, known online as @family.of.nomads, regularly shares parenting tips with her two million TikTok followers.
In a new video, Jess shared how she teaches her kids to budget by giving them £95 ($115) to spend on hygiene products every three months.
It’s up to them what they spend their money on, and how much they keep for top-ups throughout the 12 weeks.
She said: “As part of our home school we teach our kids about finances and one of the ways that we do that is we give them a quarterly budget for hygiene products.
“In the real world, if you run out of money then you can’t buy anything else.

“But these are children that we’re talking about, and while we’re at the store, I do walk them through the entire process while they are picking out what they need, and they are responsible for tracking the money that they spend.
“Grace is 11 and very responsible at tracking all of the money that she spends at the store, and making sure she had enough left over in case she needs anything else before her three months are up.
“But while they’re at the store, I help them compare prices and make sure that they’re getting the best deal.
“Grace did decide to put this hair clip back because she just didn’t feel comfortable with how much money she had left over.

“As an 11-year-old, Grace received $115 every three months for hygiene products.”
During the 46-second video, Jess and her daughter Grace are seen picking out the skin and haircare she needs.
Grace is seen keeping track of the total on her phone to help make sure she doesn't go over budget.
At the end of the video, Jess reveals her daughter spent £74 ($89.66), leaving her £21 ($25.34) for emergencies.
Jess’ teaching method attracted plenty of attention online, with the video gaining more than 474,000 likes and 3.6 million views.
But in the comments, other parents were divided on the idea, with some arguing that Jess is depriving her kids of their childhood.
One wrote: “Kinda sad tho why not let them spend money on what they want like toys instead of making them pay for the stuff they need.”
Another said: “A parent should always pay for hygiene products. I understand toys but basic hygiene products?”
Someone else put: “Let them live their childhoods.”
Others praised the scheme, with one commenting: “Honestly that’s more useful than what I’m learning in school, like budgeting is important, proving a circle is a circle isn’t.”
