THE Dyson Airwrap is very likely to be top of many Christmas lists this year – but with an eyewatering price tag, is it really worth the cash?

The hair styler dries and styles hair at the same time – and makes it extremely easy to give yourself a blowdry worthy of the swankiest salon – but it costs an extremely hefty £499.99.

However, there are loads of other more affordable dupes on the market from brands like Remington and Babyliss.

Novice hairstyler Hayley Minn tried them all out next to the Airwrap to see how they compare – and there’s one that was almost just as good for nearly a tenth of the price…

Dyson Airwrap, £499.99

As you’d expect for the price, the Dyson Airwrap even looks beautiful and high-quality when you take it out of the box.

Mine was a limited edition blue and rose gold colour, with a matching case – and a few different attachments, including brushes for drying and smoothing hair at the same time, as well as the classic Airwrap barrels to get the bouncy blow.

It’s not easy to use the Airwrap at first, but after watching a few Youtube tutorials, I quickly got the hang of it.

The tool works by suctioning your hair into a curl, so you don’t have to work hard to create a bouncy blow.

It also uses less heat than standard curling wands or stylers, so hair breakage and split ends are less of a concern – plus it’s far quieter than your average hair dryer, so much so that I could actually  have a conversation while using it.

Once finished, I did look like I’d just stepped out of a salon, however, there’s just no getting around that extortionate price.

But, if you’re someone who spends a lot of money on the hairdresser, this may just be the investment for you.

Revamp Progloss™ Airstyle – 6 in 1 Air Styler, £79.99, Boots

I’d never heard of Revamp before, but it’s more than impressed me.

The Revamp Progloss Airstyle 6-in-1 Air Styler DR-1250 is its latest launch, coming with six attachments including a paddle brush for smoothing, a 19mm curling head, a drying nozzle, and two brush attachments – one of which rotates to make it easy to create soft waves.

Plus, it’s also one of the few hot-air stylers that ships with a diffuser, making it suitable for those with curly hair.

It’s extremely easy to use and gave me almost the same curls as the Airwrap – however it required a lot more work without Dyson’s Airwrap technology.

It’s also much noisier than the Airwrap, but when it’s this much cheaper, that’s a small price to pay.

Hot Tools Black Gold Volumiser Set, £80

Hot Tools’ Volumiser set comes with two round brushes in different sizes.

If you want straight hair with some volume, this is the tool for you, but if you want a curly blow like the one the Airwrap gives, it requires a lot more work.

It’s quite heavy and noisy, and your hand needs to turn it a lot more than the Airwrap or even the Revamp Progloss to get the curls just as good.

Considering it’s basically the same price as the Progloss Revamp, and doesn’t have as many tools, this one may not be worth the money.

Remington Curl & Straight Confidence Airstyler AS8606, £54.99, Boots

Remington are known for their affordable and high quality haircare, and their Curl and Straight Confidence Airstyler is no exception.

It comes with four attachments – a concentrator nozzle, a 40mm rounded, soft bristle hot air brush, a hot paddle brush, and a 30mm cylindrical hot air tong – which can all be rotated through the hair by the tool.

The rotating nature of this tool made it very easy to use and produced a great bouncy blow, but it’s also quite bulky and, when curling, the clip you need to use for the tong was a bit fiddly.

What is great about this Airstyler is that it comes with a carry case, so it’s easy to store and transport.

At £54.99, this is an excellent dupe to the Airwrap!

TRESemmé Full Finish Airstyler, £18, Boots

Tresemme’s Airstyler is by far the cheapest on the market – and, unfortunately, you can tell.

The three different attachments are handy – two different sized curlers and a brush – but this product was incapable of getting my naturally straight hair to curl.

However, if you have a fringe, or thin, short hair, this product is very good value for money – and can definitely make blow drying straight hair easier!

BaByliss Air Style 1000, £46.66 (was £70), Boots

Like many of the other Airwrap dupes we tried, BaByliss’ version comes with a range of attachments – including a paddle-brush for creating sleek styles, a 50mm brush attachment that can add volume, a conical curling attachment, and a drying nozzle.

Using the curling attachment to compare to the Airwrap, I did think it did quite a good job and was relatively straightforward to use.

However, like all the others, it’s much noisier than its expensive counterpart.

Another downside is that the Air Style 1000 requires hair to be 80 per cent dry before styling, which means achieving your perfect style may prove time-consuming.
