I tried TikTok's viral birthing makeup trend but wish I hadn't – there's a very simple alternative | The Sun

ONE woman has tried a new viral trend for mothers going into labor, although it didn't work out as she expected.

It's called the "birthing makeup" trend, which involves an extensive makeup routine before giving birth.

The idea of a pregnant woman doing her makeup before having their child was further emphasized in a video on TikTok by reality television star Heidi Montag in November, per Fox News.

The 39-year-old went above and beyond compared to some other mothers who had been doing the trend, as she hired a professional makeup artist before the birth of her son, Ryker.

The clip gained about 7 million views, prompting other TikTokers like Courtney James to try the trend.

However, according to her recent video, it didn't go as planned.

"Do your makeup before going into labor they said," Courtney wrote in a caption at the beginning of the 16-second clip.

This message overlayed photos of another woman who had completed the trend as well.

Courtney then revealed that she had ended up washing her makeup away due to her tears during the birth of her child.

"Nah bc I cried it all off, how y'all do it I don't know," she noted.

She also offered a simple alternative in the caption below the video for viewers, given her experience.

"Yea I suggest going all natural 😂," Courtney wrote.

Some TikTokers commented on their similar experience to Courtney's video.

"Lmfao mine rubbed off while I was having contractions," one person noted.

"I was a WRECK, tears everywhere 😂❤️❤️," another explained.

Courtney responded that about all of her makeup ended up on the hospital pillow during her contractions.

Other commenters also agreed with Courtney's sentiment about staying "natural" for the birth.

"Full face makeup looks silly anyways…you just birthed a whole human being your suppose to look like a wreck 😂," one user said.

"As much as I love makeup I wouldn't do these Instagram looks I feel that takes away from the maternity moment," another added.

A third commenter also noted they would opt for a "very natural look."

The "birthing makeup" trend is also referred to as "labor makeup" or "delivery makeup" on TikTok.

Similar to the comments on Courtney's video, Heidi's and many clips from several mothers have created a conversation amongst thousands of TikTokers.

They have been debating whether or not the trend is a positive experience or a little "too much."

It may be an optimal method for those mothers who prefer to have labor and delivery photoshoots.
