I unclog my kitchen drain using something everyone has in their cupboard, the grease-busting tip is a must for Christmas | The Sun

A DIY fan has shared her remedy for blocked kitchen drains.

This is going to be a hack worth remembering in the run-up to Christmas.

The season of gluttony usually means a lot of fatty substances making their way down kitchen sinks and into the pipes.

This creates the potential for clogged and blocked drains and no one wants that.

This inevitably leads to bad odors wafting up and not the sort of seasonal scent most homeowners want.

But Iris Deorre's grease-busting tip (@irisdeorre3) involves something that everyone has in their cupboard.

She is a “DIY and content creator," and shares her various tips on her TikTok.

Her hack in this post is timely as the festive season approaches.

“How I unclog my kitchen sink," she said, as she poured a generous dose of table salt down the plug hole.

Then she boiled a kettle full of water, which went down the drain over the salt.

“Works well, breaking down the grease," she promised.

"Worked first time," she said. "Repeat if necessary."

Some commenters were delighted: “This worked for me, thank you.”

Plumbing experts Stahl Plumbing said using salt had another beneficial outcome.

"When pipes get clogged, they tend to build up a nasty odor. While salt and baking soda may not clear up the clog, they will do wonders for the odor."
