A COUPLE were left in stitches after their attempt to have a sweet festive night in ended in disaster.

Celtic star Liam Shaw, who moved on loan to Morecambe in the summer, and girlfriend Ellie Butler had aimed to have a gingerbread house competition.



Ellie had picked up the sets in B&M and revealed she was excited she had finally talked Liam into taking part.

Shop bosses described the kits as "easy to make" with "no baking required".

They added: "Fill your home with the smell of festive spirit with this creative gingerbread kit.

"A fun, festive project for adults and kids to enjoy together. With tasty new icing and new printed gingerbread."

But posting on her YouTube channel, Ellie admitted: "It was only £2 so I don't think it's going to be the best thing in the world."

And the couple noticed one tiny problem with the sugary houses – they were smaller than their hands.

Ellie exclaimed: "God this is going to be a small gingerbread house.

"I didn't think they were that small. Oh my.

"I think we need to get bigger ones. Look at the size of that."

She added: "Why does it come in such a big box? What the hell is that.

"I don't even want to eat it, look at the size of it.

"It's going it take us two seconds to make this.

"No way is it that small. It looks way bigger on the box.

"God it smells strange as well. It doesn't even smell like a gingerbread house."

Struggling to put his together, Liam joked: "You've been scammed."

But the loved-up pair didn't let the small mishap stop them from having a good time, with them bursting into fits of laughter throughout their 'competition'.

And the winner of the night? Their dog Ace who ate parts of their gingerbread houses before they could be judged.

Ellie said: "Just let him have it, it's a disaster anyway."
