POSTING a photo of your new engagement ring on social media has become the new normal.
Many women who are expecting their partner to pop the question get manicures in anticipation of the big moment.
Posting in the Facebook group "That's it, I'm ring shaming," one woman shared a photo of another woman showing off her engagement ring – and the comments were brutal.
The original post showed a large diamond engagement ring as well as the user's maroon acrylic nails, which included a plaid pattern on the middle and ring fingers.
The comments section described the manicure as an attempt at the iconic tartan plaid design by Burberry.
One user wrote: "The 'Burberry' nails are what get me."

Another person replied: "It's always the people with the big brand symbols that have never owned anything by that brand."
No aspect of the image was exempt from criticism from Facebook users.
One commenter said: "Tacky nails, dated tile, and not one, but TWO ugly rugs… OF COURSE they have a ring that reminds me of a face only a mother could love. I tried so hard to find one half decent thing in this photo. I was highly unsuccessful."
"The ring…the nails matching the rug, girl BYE. This isn't it, miss ma'am," wrote another user.

Another user appeared to actually like the poster's manicure, however, they did have another critique.
"I hate that I actually love the nails, a little tacky but they’re really clean. The ring? If I was proposed to with this, I’d assume it was like $10 and I’m just trying to be impressed by the size," they said.
