I work at a vets…the five dog breeds I would own including the ‘floofy, goofy’ loveable giant | The Sun

WHEN it comes to getting a pooch, it’s vital to do your research and make sure the breed you pick suits your lifestyle.

So to help out, one vet has weighed in with the five breeds that she would recommend having worked in a surgery for years.

Elle is an animal whizz who shares her doggy wisdom on her TikTok account @ElleVetSciences.

And she decided to advise her followers on the five types of pooch that she’d happily own having treated thousands of pups.

At number five, she chooses the havanese: a small toy dog with a round face and floppy ears, known for their cheerful demeanour.

“They are sweet,” Elle suggests, “they don’t shed, they’re just the best.”

Coming in at number four is the Bernese mountain dog, a good pick if you prefer larger pooches.

According to the animal guru, “they’re floofy, goofy, gentle and loveable”.

They’re also active pups perfect if you want a dog to take on hikes and the like.

Her third choice is the Portuguese water dog, which are large pups with a distinctive wavy coat.

“They are really good family dogs,” Elle informs her followers, “they’re very sweet; they’re very smart.”

Second to top comes the gorgeous springer spaniel.

Elle says that the pooches are “trainable, incredibly loyal, [and] just great dogs – I love them”.

The vet’s top pick, however, turns out to be a bit of a curveball: any rescue dog.

“Some of the best dogs on this planet are ones that have been given a second chance at life,” she explains.

“They love their owners so unconditionally, and I highly, highly recommend you adopt a rescue dog.”

Elle’s clip racked up dozens of comments supporting her picks, with troves of fans agreeing that rescue pooches make the perfect pets.

“Not to be like that,” one wrote, “but my rescues really have rescued me.”
