A CELEBRITY dog trainer has revealed the three breeds he would never recommend to a busy family with kids.

Certified professional trainer and TikTok sensation Sam Hoke told the U.S. Sun that some owners live to regret the type of dog they choose to take home.

"If you're a family, you wanna avoid some stronger, working breed dogs," Hoke aka @dogtrainerofficial said.

The celeb trainer, who has worked with A-listers like Lady Gaga, explained that pups like German Shepherds, Malinois, and any type of cattle dog have been specifically bred for demanding jobs.

"They need really strong jobs," Hoke told the Sun.

"Some of the hardest cases I see are people that came in as a family, and they rescue or they've purchased a working breed dog they weren't prepared for.

"And when you get them as a family dog you don't really have the time or the energy to train it to sniff for bombs or herd cattle."

If these pups aren't stimulated with activities that use their skills or talents, they'll find any way to use up their energy.

This is when the naughty behavior begins.

"So they're sitting at home building up this energy thinking 'I need something to do cause I'm bored," Hoke said.

"They're gonna start chewing up your furniture, barking at every single thing that moves, and herding your kids."

While the German Shepherd might not be your top choice now, Hoke did say these breeds are great pets for those who have the time and energy to give them what they need.

Though it may take a special person to own a cattle dog, the dog trainer also told The U.S. Sun about some super low-maintenance breeds that could be your future family member.

"One of the best breeds you can get as a family is a golden retriever or maybe a lab," Hoke said.

He explained that they are naturally relaxed pets that normally love to be around kids.

BEST BREEDS

For breeds other than that iconic duo, he recommends either looking super big or pretty small.

On the smaller end, Hoke had wonderful things to say about pugs.

"Really low energy for the most part," he told The U.S. Sun.

"They're kind of relaxed they're really small so they're good in smaller spaces if you don't have a yard."

Another small dog that Hoke has had great experiences with is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

"It's one of the greatest family dogs. Very chill," he said.

"They understand space. They tolerate annoying kids very well. And they're not super obnoxious as far as reactivity barking."

Interestingly enough, the trainer also recommended choosing a massive breed like a St. Bernard or a Bernese Mountain Dog – if you can fit them through the door.

"They can be a little more troublesome, but they're bigger so they have less energy to drive you crazy with and that kind of helps."

Finally, Hoke said that a pit bull can be a great option for families if you find the right one.

"I know a lot of people are against this, but American Pitbull Terrier or any pitbull with a really good temperament is a good family dog," he said.

"You don't wanna get one that had a rough upbringing or one that hasn't been properly socialized."

Hoke has also revealed to the U.S. Sun the signs that an animal is dangerous and how to pick the best pet for you.

When he isn't sharing tips on his TikTok, the celeb trainer is working at his exclusive dog training facility in Los Angeles, California, Ranch Dog Training.
