I’m a gypsy – the questions you want to know including why we don’t eat meat while in mourning & refuse to use the loo | The Sun

A TRAVELLER has answered some of the unusual questions she gets asked about her culture, including why gypsies often don’t eat meat while in mourning.

Not only this, but gypsy girl Charlotte Ann also explained that many travellers will wear black for a whole year after a close family member passes away.

Opening up about her unique lifestyle on social media, Charlotte asked: “Why don't gypsies eat meat when someone dies?”

She then explained: “Not every gypsy does it, I have people in my own family that don't do it – that do eat meat.

“So basically, when someone dies, we won't eat meat until they're buried.

“I eat fish, but I don't eat any kind of poultry, any kind of red meat. None of that. None. Just fish or seafood.

SQUEAKY CLEAN

I'm a gypsy girl and people always make the same big mistake when cleaning

“Would you believe the reason why we do this? I don't actually know. I don't know why we do that.

“I do it out of respect. I've just always thought it was out of respect for the dead.

“We just do not eat meat until they're buried. So then when they're buried, you can eat meat again.

“I've always just thought it to be a thing of respect.

As well as this, Charlotte then shared another gypsy tradition, as she added: “And then some gypsy people wear black for 12 months when someone dies. But not all.

“Some of them will wear it for a couple of months. Irish people wear it for the whole year.

“And it has to be someone closely related to you, you're not just gonna do it for strangers, so mummy, daddy, husband, brother, sister, grandparents, etc. Like really close aunts, uncles.

“I wore black for a year when my daddy died. Twelve solid months.

“I did wear coloured pyjamas though. Some people won't even wear coloured pyjamas, but I don't see the point in not.

“It's mourning clothes for when you're outside.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @charlotteann00, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it was posted just two days ago, but has quickly amassed a staggering 72,100 views.

Not only did Charlotte reveal some unique gypsy traditions, but another gypsy girl, named Suzy, also took to the video sharing platform to reveal one of her traveller traditions.

Suzy explained that she, like many other gypsy women, rarely use their downstairs loo.

When describing things she “doesn’t allow” in her home, she revealed: “[We don’t use] the bathroom downstairs for anything other than to wash your hands and pee.

“Other than that and to wash your hands, it's a big no no. You don't do that. It's too close.”

Similarly to this, another traveller, Chantelle Devonshire, also explained that in her old trailer, she didn’t use the loo either, and instead, used it for storage purposes.

She previously told Fabulous: “We don’t use the bathroom in our trailers. We see it as dirty.

“I use mine as a storage space. I have boxes in the bath and clothes hung up.

“The bathroom drawers are sat on the toilet and I use that as storage.

“Instead we have a building built, or a lot of travellers will have a box that they tow which has a bathroom and a toilet in it.

“At the moment, I have a shed with an outside bathroom in it.
