I took off-grid to new levels with my 'raft house' – it's tiny but we still have movie nights & live 3 ft from the ocean | The Sun

OFF-GRID living has never been more desirable with many people opting for a home that allows them to reconnect with nature.

A DIY-savvy man has proven that being a digital nomad doesn't have to cost the earth after opting to build his own floating home.

Drakey (@drakey8) has garnered over 391,000 followers on TikTok, where he shares his love of exploring the natural world.

He took to the social media platform to share the process of building a houseboat with help from his friends.

He said: “We’re going to be turning this raft into a tiny house on the water.

“First of all we’re doing this on such a tight budget so don’t expect anything flash.

“We chucked on the flooring and some fake grass then it was time to get the house built.

“We used a gazebo but it does the job.”

He hammered wooden panels to the raft for firm flooring before opting for fake grass instead of carpet.

He then attached a gazebo instead of using wood to build walls and a roof.

Drakey admitted attaching the gazebo to the raft was a challenge because it was a very windy day.

He continued: “We somehow made it work and came back later ready for our first night in our new house.

“It’s only got one bedroom and one couch but we love it.”

He equipped the floating home with an inflatable bed and couch as well as a projector for watching movies.

He said: “It was windy and raining the whole night but we woke up to the best conditions.

“I bet not many people live three steps away from the ocean but what a way to wake up and I can say I love my new house.”

Drakey was delighted by his finished houseboat and jumped out of it into the ocean for an early morning swim.

Over 653,000 people watched the video and it quickly racked up over 52,000 likes.

Commenters were impressed by the project and tagged their friends suggesting that they should try making their own.

One person wrote: “Bro I so want to do this with my mates.”

Another said: “That’s so cool and amazing.”
