I’m a hairdresser, colouring your roots every 6 weeks is FAR too often – but there’s an easy solution to help | The Sun

HOW often do you colour your hair, or go to a hairdresser to get your roots touched up?

The average time spans between 4-6 weeks, as regrowth starts to show and people rush to book an appointment – but a hairdresser has revealed she thinks this is far too often.

Rosie Baylis, who can be found on TikTok under her profile name @rosiehairtransformations, took to social media to give her take on what she thinks is a common misconception.

The hair stylist explained: “If you’re colouring your hair every 4-6 weeks, in my opinion that is WAY too often.

“Nobody’s got time for that now.”

After sharing her opinion, Rosie said she believes that there is an easy solution to help – and all it takes is changing how you dye your hair slightly.

Rosie went on to explain: “Often we think that our roots are the problem.

“But, actually, it’s our hair colour that is the problem.”

The social media user then showed exactly what she meant, using an example of one of her recent clients.

She told how the lady had come to her salon and said that she needed her help to colour correct her locks.

Rosie continued: “By looking at her, I knew exactly what her problem was and how to solve it.”

She said that while it would take a few sessions and a few months to completely transform her hair, the key is balancing the hair out and ensuring regrowth doesn’t show.

Rosie said: “The first step was to balance the hair out, as she was a very, very solid blonde on the top and dark underneath.

“This is super common as we naturally go grayer around our hairline first, as that’s where the hair is weakest.

“Then, because our hair’s really strong underneath, that’s why a lot of our natural colour is there.”

One the dye had been put on, taken and washed out, Rosie shared the results of the first appointment.

The lady had a new blonde do, with different tones running through it that added “dimension.”

At the front, however, Rosie had ensured she left some darker tones at the top of the hairline and blended them into the colour.

She described this as “really soft regrowth”, which means that the hair can go longer without being touched up as the difference will be so much more subtle.

Rose explained: “Roots are blended so she can top up as and when she wants to – not because she feels she has to.”

And Rosie’s followers said they could already notice the difference and loved her trick.

One wrote: “Looks amazing and will grow out without hardly noticing the greys.”
