I’m a mortician & parents desperate to keep kids in a cot should never try the ‘crib nest’ technique – it could be fatal | The Sun

A MORTICIAN has slammed a mum's 'crib nest' technique to keep her child in bed.

Lauren, from the US, warned parents not to try the parenting hack at home and revealed the results could be fatal.

Taking to social media, the mortician dueted a video of a mum putting a net-like tent over her toddler's crib so that he would stay in bed for longer.

Lauren revealed that she had been tagged in the video numerous times by parents to give her verdict on the hack.

And while she said it was best to do whatever is right for your child, she did have some warnings to throw out there.

"I also agree with doing some research and making sure that the products we use are safe," she said. "Because a lot of these products are not regulated."

Lauren was surprised to see that crib nets were not regulated and asked viewers not to come for the mum who used the crib net.

She continued: "I want you to know that children have died in these contraptions.

"What ends up happening is a couple of different things.

"One, that top part gets pulled down, it rips, or somehow the child gets wrapped up in it.

"And you can tell where I'm going with that.

"Another way a fatality occurred was a child got their head stuck in the side with the crib net and their head was like under the mattress.

"And then a third way that a child was severely injured was there's these poles that go up and around in the nets.

"They were able to get one of those poles out and actually punctured themselves with it and he has lasting, lasting lifelong damage from that."

Lauren said she understood why parents use them, as she had done herself when her son was young without knowing the dangers.

She added: "If I knew then what I know now, I never would have bought one of these things.

"I'm telling you from experience that these satin bows do come apart pretty easily.

"Why they made them out of satin, I'll never know."

For those who still plan to use them, Lauren said it was important to inspect them every day for any defaults.

The mortician also gave some alternative options for safer sleeping including a toddler bed or a floor bed.

The video posted to her TikTo account @lovee.miss.lauren has since gone viral with over 1.8million views and over 220k likes.

Parents were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section.

One person wrote: "This was a huge thing years ago, I thought everyone already knew about this. I’m shocked they still sell it."

Another commented: "If they climb out of the crib it’s time for a bed!!!"

"Different solutions…. You’re a genius," penned a third.
