I’m a nutritionist – if your child hates veggies you can serve them these foods instead… they have the same vitamins | The Sun

ANY parent knows the pain of getting your child to eat veggies – they’ll leave them right till the end of dinner and try any trick to get out of finishing them.

But one nutritionist has revealed that mums of fussy eaters need not worry, as there’s “yummier” foods you can convince your tots to eat with the same vitamins in them.

Jennifer Anderson, founder of Kids Eat In Color, first realised feeding kids is difficult after having her first child.

She soon learnt that it’s easier to make tots eat fruit rather than vegetables, and now advises parents to start swapping vegetables out with similar fruits if your child is being fussy.

“Fruit is also full of nutrients, so if your child is struggling with veggies, then they can fill in the gaps with fruit,” she said in an Instagram post.

Jennifer created a diagram to show parents the best swaps to make.

For example, if your little one won’t eat red peppers, you can encourage them to eat strawberries instead as they also contain high Vitamin C.

Similarly, you can swap out carrots for mangos for a good helping of Vitamin A.

If your child won’t eat green beans, you can offer them kiwi for a dose of Vitamin K.

Shredded red cabbage can be swapped out for grapes to give your tot antioxidants.

“It is true that veggies in general tend to have more nutrients than fruit,” Jennifer said. “But that’s not true for all veggies.

“So continuing to expose them to fruit can help them learn to eat the veggies too.

“It can also be helpful to have some meals and snacks where there are only veggies, not veggies and fruit.

“Am I concerned about the sugar in fruit? I'm not.

“I'm more interested in adding in foods with protein and fat to snacks and meals.”

Some mums advised in the comments that if your child refuses to eat fruit too, you can hide it in a yummy smoothie instead.

“We use frozen fruit and blended cottage cheese in the summertime to make popsicles,” another suggested.

Jennifer added that the reverse of her advise is also true – if your kid will only eat veggies instead of fruit, you can swap it out for something with similar vitamins and health benefits.
