I'm a skincare expert – here's what you should save and splurge on…& why you shouldn't fork out on pricey moisturisers | The Sun

LET'S face it, we're all guilty of forking out a small fortune on pricey skincare in a bid to turn back the clock.

But according to one dermatologist, there are some skincare products that are not worth the high-end price tags…because the budget beauty versions are just as good.

Dr Jenny Liu (@drjennyliu) took to TikTok and shared an informative video revealing what she'd personally save or splurge on for skincare.

"I'd definitely save on cleansers because they all do the same thing," she explains.

"And there's great gentle cleansers that you can find over the counter.

The skincare pro goes on to say how she'd also personally save on moisturisers.

"Again because they do the same thing," she explains.

"Certainly if you like to splurge, there's nothing wrong with it, but don't expect that it'll give better results."

The dermatologist continues: "Since vitamin C is so unstable, I definitely would splurge on the most studied vitamin C serum on the market."

Dr Jenny also highlights how she'd splurge on peptide treatments – especially ones which have been shown clinically to improve skin elasticity, fine lines, and wrinkles.

"For retinoids, again, it's a toss up because there are great products at each price point," she explains.

"However, if you have more sensitive skin and a hard time tolerating retinoids, it may be worthwhile to splurge on something like this."

The video has since gone viral, garnering a whopping 562k views and hundreds of comments from beauty fans up and down the country.
