I’m a teacher – the top 5 gifts I love getting and mugs are up there…even though most staff HATE them | The Sun

WITH Christmas just around the corner, parents will soon be racking their brains to try and think of an end-of-term present to get their child's teacher.

But if you're bored of chocolates and bubble bath, then look no further…because a teacher has revealed her top five favourite gifts she's ever received.

In a clip posted to TikTok (@slingshotdeacon), Lindsay begins: "One of the hardest things about being out of the classroom this year is not getting all the fun little gifts that students give us.

"But I'm going to give my favourite top 5."

While many of us may assume teachers have enough pens to last them a lifetime, according to Lindsay, this isn't the case.

"At number 5 is pens – Sharpies…I could never have enough pens," she says.

Let's face it, there's nothing like getting your caffeine fix in the morning to give you that much-needed boost you need throughout the day – and it's no different for teachers.

That's why Lindsay says another present she's gratefully received from students is gift cards.

Lindsay goes on to say that she's also a huge fan of receiving a more personal and sentimental gift that's taken both time and effort.

"At number 3 is handwritten letters," she says.

"This is a lost art.

"I used to get these all the time. – all these awesome handwritten letters, I keep them.

"Holey moley – Macy, class of 2012, I still have your letter."

Moving onto number two, which she says is controversial because most teachers "don't want more mugs," she holds one up to the camera and explains: "But I love this mug that I got hand painted from a student.

"Brooke, I still have it and I drink out of it on a regular basis."

And last but not least, the teacher concludes: "At number one…
an email from a former student who says they became a teacher because of you.

"Thank you. Now go write your teacher a letter!"

It wasn't long before the post went viral, racking up thousands of views and likes from up and down the country.

"Not the homemade mug – SO SWEET!!" enthused one.

A second penned: "I’m making every single teacher in my school a hand written letter."

A third commented: "Damn I already bought the mug!"

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "I got all my kiddo’s teachers coffee gift cards because running after 3 year olds requires a lot of energy."

And a further added: "I’m becoming a teacher because of my favourite teacher. I go into student teaching this year because of her."
