I'm a thrifty mum – here's how I 'dry clean' my clothes at home, it saves me so much money on my charity shop hauls | The Sun

WITH Christmas around the corner and rising energy bills, we’re all trying to cut costs where we can.

Luckily one thrifty mum has shared how she’s cut out the need to go to the dry cleaners – and effectively does it herself at home.

Heidi Onik, known online as @duchessofthrift, regularly shares money-saving ideas with her 31,000 followers.

In a recent video, the savvy content creator shares how she saves money on dry cleaning, using an at-home kit.

She proves it works by using it on her new suede Afghan coat, which she picked up at a car boot sale for just 50p.

“I bought this lovely Afghan coat, it’s suede, at the car boot and it needs dry cleaning, and I don’t want to pay for the dry cleaning.

“My lovely friend on Instagram, Michelle recommended that I try these Dry Cleaners Secrets.

“So I’m going to give them a squizz and let you know how I get on with them.

“So you do a spot clean, there’s like a little cloth in there. Smells nice.

“You do a little spot clean on any stains, and then you put that in the tumble dryer with the item.

“So let’s have a go at a spot clean.

“There’s a mark on there. I’m going to give it a rub.

“Now I’ve got to put it in the tumble dryer with the thing, with the little pad.

“That’s going for about 15 minutes now.

“Just to tell you a little bit about this. I paid £8.99 on Amazon and it says six loads, so you get six of these little portions in there, little packets.

“You get six of them, and it says up to 30 garments, so I assume that means you can put five in with each of these.

“I’ve got quite a few things I picked up at the charity shop, they were a bit manky, so it’s a lot cheaper, especially than having a suede coat cleaned, so I’ll give you the verdict in a sec.

“So I’ve taken that out and you can see that actually, the stain has gone from there.

“And then I swear by this, the Fabulousa, and I just give the lining a little spray with that, which just makes it smell nice. This stuff’s bloody brilliant.

“So, it works. It’s brilliant.”

Fans loved the cheap and easy hack, with the video gaining more than 5,500 views.

In the comments, Heidi’s followers shared their own hacks, with one writing: “I had curtains with blackout backing that needed a clean so found a way online: 5l warm water + 50ml isopropyl alcohol + teasp of washing up liquid.”

Another added: “My friend worked in Sketchley years ago and I’ve never taken things to the dry cleaners because of what she told me.
