I'm known as The Platinum King & blondes always make the same five hair mistakes and it's totally ruining your locks | The Sun

A PROFESSIONAL hair guru has listed the five common mistakes all blondes make with their locks – so how many are you guilty of?

Zach Mesquit, better known to his 272k fans as The Platinum King, took to TikTok to reveal the biggest no-nos blondes could make when it comes to maintaining their hair.

According to him, one of the worst things you could do is using products with too much protein.

''Synthetic protein, natural protein, keratin – anything. You need to always read the labels on your shampoos, your conditioners, your serums.''

He went on to explain in the video: ''You might think that protein is going to be good, it's going to strengthen your hair, it's going to make it better.

''But, unfortunately, the reality is that if you use any kind of products that have protein for a long period of time what ends up happening is that protein builds up on your hair.''

This, he noted, will make your hair ''very brittle'' and you will notice extreme amounts of breakage.

The second major error to best steer clear of is hair sprays, which usually contain glue and alcohol.

''Those two things sprayed on some fragile, bleached blonde hair is the enemy.

''You don't want to ever use it.''

According to Zach, the third mistake blondes tend to make is using heat – and that doesn't mean just blow dryer or straightener.

''It also means the water you wash your hair with – you don't even want to wash your hair with too hot of water.

''Any time you apply heat to your hair – even if that's just warm air or warm water – it is going to open up the cuticle of the hair, your toner's going to fade faster.''

Urging his fans to look after their locks, Zach said: ''Make sure to turn down all your hot tools to no higher than 350F (175C).''

We get it, you're tempted to sleep in a little extra and dry shampoo will make your locks fresh in seconds – but according to the guru, it's time to ditch this product.

''It's just gonna dry the hair out,'' Zach explained, adding it will eventually lead to breakage.

The last no-no is brushing your locks when they're wet – something most of us are guilty of.

''When it's wet, the hydrogen bonds are actually separated, so your hair is at its weakest, most easily breakable state.

''You should only use your fingers to gently detangle and never round brush blonde hair when it's wet- never.''

Fellow beauty fans were divided – whilst some thanked the guru, others were baffled.

''This literally goes against everything I’ve been taught in the last 18 years (the part about protein) I’m so confused….'' one was lost.
