I'm over 50 and I get told I'm too old to show off my tattoos and I dress like a teen – but I'm never going to stop | The Sun

THIS woman is told that she's too old to show off her tattoos and dress like a teenager because she's over 50 years old, but she has said she will never stop dressing as she likes.

Lonni, who has a YouTube account called Grey Hair And Tattoos posted a video discussing a comment she constantly gets, which is "you're too old to wear that."

She said it's an "absolutely silly statement."

The YouTuber then recalled a time when someone commented on one of her TikTok videos and said: "You're too old to dress like I teenager, just saying."

Lonni made a reaction video to the comment.

She said: "Truthfully I don't care what people think, but it does stop some people from dressing the way they want to.

"It puts that seed of doubt in their mind of like 'oh my god are people gonna judge me.'"

Lonni continued: "So, in honor of dressing like a teenager, here's my outfit of the day."

"I have on Hello Kitty Doc Martens, cute little jeans, I have my belt, and I French-tucked my t-shirt."

She ended the video with some words of encouragement.

"Don't let people like this stop you. Wear what you want.

"Express yourself even if people think you look like a teenager.

"Who cares? I take it as a compliment."

In her YouTube video, Lonnie said that she made that reaction video because she knew people of all ages and all genders were being told the same hurtful message.

Lonni then explained that this idea of dressing your own age comes from what people see on the internet.

"We see clothing based on age," she said.

The YouTuber said clothing stores are also separated by age.

There's the junior's department where "they've already decided as a junior you're gonna like this," said Lonnie.

And a woman's department where "you're a little bit more mature and you're a little bit more sophisticated, so you're gonna wear this."

'IT IS SO DISAPPOINTING'

Even store website models shape this narrative.

Lonni said she loves the clothing brand Free People, but has never seen a model that's her age on the site.

"It is so disappointing," she said.

"And you look at the brands we're supposed to be wearing and they're still on younger people."

Lonni added: "We get told day in and day out fashion, being fashion forward, is a younger person's privilege."

The YouTuber believes that the internet trolls are "so incredibly unhappy with themselves that they feel that they need to take it upon themselves and try to hurt somebody who is trying to express their own individuality."

When addressing people that get these hateful comments thrown at them, Lonnie said: "Just tell yourself it's not me. It's not my outfit."

She added: "Don't let these people get to you. Don't let them win."

"It's so important for you to speak up," Lonni advised.

She said if someone insults you, it's "extremely important for you to vocalize the simple fact that what they just said hurt your feelings and that you would like them to stop."

"It is really important for you to take that power back," Lonnie said.
