AS temperatures drop, homeowners have taken extra precautions taking cold weather into consideration.

One home hacker shared her priceless advice for those who smell a rat this time of the year.

Anna Lanier is a digital content creator whose content focuses on life hacks, tips, and tricks.

She took to TikTok to share her cheap and easy hack to keep rats out of the home during the cold months when the rodents may be seeking warm shelter.

"Rats hate the smell!" she wrote in a text overlay on the video.

She showed what appeared to be an attic with a mouse trap in the middle of the floor.

"It's getting cold outside," Lanier said. "So those rats want to come in."

She then shaved a bar of a specific brand of soap.

"But they hate the smell of Irish Spring," she added.

After shaving the soap, she scattered the shavings around the floor.

"Put it in your attic, put it in your garage, put it out in your shed," she advised. "Wherever the hell those things come around."

Once she filled the floor with the soap shavings, she removed the mouse trap, deeming it unnecessary.

"You don't even need a trap anymore," she assured.

Viewers flocked to the comment section to confirm their personal experience with the less hazardous hack.

"Irish Spring worked to detour mice from out house when we put it out," one commenter wrote. "They went away!"

"Also works on mice," Lanier added.
