JLo's secret to aging backwards at 53 revealed – her biggest 'weapon' is totally free | The Sun

JENNIFER Lopez appears to have halted time with an ageless appearance throughout her decades in the spotlight.

The singer, 54, has shown no signs of slowing down as she continues to put on high-energy performances in outfits that leave little to the imagination, confidently exposing her well-sculpted midriff.

After appearing in the movie My Little Girl in 1986, she broke into Hollywood with acting roles starring alongside Robin Williams in Jack, and Jack Nicholson in Blood and Wine.

Despite landing the lead role in 1997’s Selena, her own success as a pop star was relatively unexpected.

JLo’s debut hit If You Had My Love went straight to number four in the charts when it was released in 1999.

Her talent as an actress, singer, dancer, and entrepreneur helped her to become the first Latina woman in Hollywood to make over $1 million and she now has a reported net worth of $400 million.

With her own skincare range and perfumes, it’s perhaps unsurprising that there was a time in her life when she was getting just three hours of sleep a night.

The mom-of-two has often been quizzed about how she remains youthful despite the demands of her daily life.

She amazes her over 252 million followers on Instagram with even the smallest glimpse into her beauty regimen.

We’ve taken a deep dive into Jennifer Lopez’s anti-aging secrets, including one that doesn’t cost anything.

SKINCARE

Lopez launched her own range of beauty products in 2021, after years of being asked what she uses on her skin to achieve the so-called JLo glow."

The collection debuted with beauty staples including a cleanser, moisturizer, face mask, eye cream, and serum.

Speaking on the JLo beauty website, she said: “For years, the number one question I've been asked is about my skin, and so I felt almost an obligation to share what I’ve learned.

“It’s taken 20 years to realize this dream because I knew that when we launched, it had to be amazing because it has my name on it.

“I’ve been involved in all aspects of development because JLo Beauty has to authentically mirror my values and reflect who I am, what I believe in, and how I live my life.”

She spent three years working on the formulas for the products.

The singer admitted that despite the vast range of cosmetics, sleep remains the number one pillar of her skincare regimen.

In contrast to her 20s, she now aims to get between seven to 10 hours a night and never goes to bed without taking her makeup off.

She previously described a good sleep as her biggest "weapon" in the fight against aging.

As she snoozes, her skin is kept hydrated with night creams.

She shared her full nighttime skincare regimen in a video posted on the JLo Beauty Facebook page.

“I wear a lot of makeup every single day and I get touched up a million times. By the time I get home at night I can’t wait to take it off,” Lopez said.

She used That Hit Single gel cream cleanser for $38 from her beauty range to remove all of her makeup and then applied her That JLo Glow serum for $79. She revealed that the serum is also part of her morning routine for hydrated skin.

“I love it a lot, it makes my skin feel so good. It doesn’t only make it feel moisturized, but also tight and like I’m 16 again. That’s what I love,” she said.

After the serum had dried on her skin, Jennifer covered her face and neck in The Blockbuster cream for $58.

She applied That Fresh Take cream for $48 under her eyes and on the lids to finish the routine.

Jennifer has repeatedly sworn by olive oil as nature’s secret ingredient for healthy skin.

And after seeing how it has kept her mom and aunt youthful, she decided to make it a key part of her product line.

She combined squalane, fermented oil, extra virgin oil, and leaf extract, to make the modern olive complex listed in her cream and serum.

She previously told Women’s Health that sun protection has also always been important to her and she began using SPF moisturizer daily at just 18 years old.

Jennifer said: “That is one of the biggest, biggest secrets I can tell everybody that they do not take seriously enough, because every single day our skin goes through not just sun damage, but environmental damage.

“And just having sunscreen on every day will make the difference.”

MAKEUP

The Love Don’t Cost A Thing singer applies a day cream, eye cream, and La Mer lip balm which cost $80 before doing her daily makeup.

She learned the basics of how to do her own cosmetics while walking through a mall when she was younger.

Her first professional makeup artist, Kevin Laquan, helped her to perfect her skills.

She now starts by applying Nars radiant creamy concealer which costs $32 in the darker areas of her face.

This is followed by using dark colors in her makeup palette to contour.

One of her top tips is placing it slightly higher up than when she was younger, to achieve a lifted look.

She uses three different shades of Chanel Vitalumière radiant foundation which costs $65 all over her face.

“It starts with your skin, how rested and happy you are. You can put on all the makeup in the world but if you’re unhappy and your skin isn’t healthy it’s going to look…” Jennifer told Vogue.

“You can’t cover up how you feel on the inside and how you take care of yourself, people see that.”

She uses neutral colors from Tom Ford’s Color Quad eyeshadow palette for a soft look, followed by a Beautyblender liquid blush for $22 and Marc Jacobs highlighter.

She finishes her brows using Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz mechanical brow pencil and It Cosmetics superhero elastic stretch volumizing and lengthening mascara.

Jennifer revealed that she likes the range of lip gloss from Fenty Beauty. Social media has been useful in helping to keep her up to date with the best ways to contour lips.

HAIR

Jennifer Lopez is known for having glossy brunette hair which she keeps strong using Oribe gold lust nourishing hair oil.

She achieved a perfect look at Joe Biden’s inauguration using Color Wow root cover-up which costs $34.50.

Chris Appleton, who also works with the Kardashians, has remained Lopez’s go-to hairstylist throughout the years.

He helped her to turn heads at the 65th annual Grammy Awards, with a big bouncy blowout, and she stunned on her wedding day with a traditional but voluminous style.

Chris explained to Glamour the importance of prep before styling hair as he revealed that his favorite product is the Color Wow Dream Coat.

"You can really layer it up to make sure each strand of hair receives that transformative technology," he said.

The hairstylist said the hair product transforms texture like no other brand.

"I probably go through 100 bottles a year,” he added.

Chris’s collection of staples for styling Jennifer’s hair also includes Tangle Teaser – the ultimate hairbrush, Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, and Olaplex, No 3 Hair Perfector.

According to Hello!, he uses Color Wow Pop & Lock high gloss finish to seal her hairstyle in place.

Surprisingly the spray is a budget item at just $20 from Amazon.

FITNESS

Jennifer Lopez is a talented dancer, however combining cardio with lifting weights helps her to be more well-rounded when it comes to health.

"I am 100 percent convinced that working out is part of what makes me so happy,” she told Hello! back in 2016.

"Dance has always been a huge part of my life and taking the time to move my body and do something that's so good for me is key to my happiness."

Jennifer Lopez maintains her enviable physique with guidance from two personal trainers, Dodd Romero and David Kirsch.

“She trains for roughly an hour, four to five times a week, focusing on different body parts each time,” Dodd told Oprah Daily.

Her workout routines are constantly evolving to keep her body and mind engaged for the full 90-minute session.

Exercises for the lower body vary from weighted rope crunches and sumo squats to hip thrusts.

David Kirsch said a movement he calls the "platypus walk" is "the quickest, most effective workout for your butt."

Meanwhile, her upper body sessions can include ab raises, sit-ups, and a variation of push-ups.

Jennifer also took up pole dancing for her role in the movie Hustlers ahead of its release in 2019.

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, she said: “It’s like acrobatic; it’s [working] different muscle groups.

“The things [pole dancers] do with their legs and everything and go upside down…it’s hard.

“I have a lot of respect for people who do the pole.”

DIET

Jennifer Lopez’s former trainer Tracy Anderson revealed that the singer is very disciplined when it comes to eating clean.

She explained to People that Jennifer wants her diet to fuel all of the things that she’s doing, but does allow herself to indulge occasionally.

She said: “It’s all organic and it’s all very well thought out, with the balance of very high-quality proteins and a lot of nutrient-dense food.

“Everything is fresh. There’s nothing processed – just [protein powder] in a shake if we do a protein shake one day.”

She added that Jennifer doesn’t have to do any extreme dieting to remain in shape because she’s so consistent with her workouts. The singer also plans ahead with healthy snacks such as fruit, nuts, or vegetables.

She eats lean protein such as egg whites, chicken breast, and grass-fed beef up to four times a week.

Alternatively, her meals include fish that have high levels of Omega 3 and 6, such as salmon and sea bass.

Jennifer also swears by staying hydrated throughout the day and has a fresh glass of lemon water every morning.

“She drinks a minimum of seven glasses a day,” Dodd told US Weekly.

RELATIONSHIP

Jennifer has gushed about the importance of happiness for achieving a youthful look.

However, she has had a relatively turbulent dating history with several high-profile relationships, six engagements, and four marriages.

Jennifer reflected on her rocky relationships in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

She said: “For me, the relationship journey has been very up and down. But it didn’t have to do with anybody else but me — it was about me figuring out me.

“Until you learn to love yourself, you can’t completely love [someone else] in a way that is pure and true.

“Once you do that, you can have relationships that are based on love and respect, that are supportive and nourishing.”

She added: “There’s an evolution there that had to happen for me. I feel like I’m in a better place now.”

Jennifer was married to actor Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998 and Chris Judd from 2001 to 2003.

The singer and Ben Affleck split up in 2004 after calling off their wedding just four days before they were set to tie the knot.

She then married Marc Anthony in 2004 and welcomed twins Max and Emme.

She announced her split from the eight-time Latin Grammy Award winner in 2011 but their divorce was not finalized for almost another three years.

Other notable relationships include her engagement to Alex Rodriquez in 2019 and her high-profile relationship with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in the late 90s.
