Women in the Royal Family do have to follow stricter protocols than the rest of us when it comes to fashion, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t allowed to experiment. Kate, Princess of Wales glowed in neon green during a recent appearance, however Princess Eugenie tried the look first, over a decade before.

It was the Sabina Maxi Dress in Bright Green by Solace London, which Kate reportedly rented for £74 for the night.

The dress, which features an “exaggerated neckline”, also boasted a slit up the side of one leg.

A band in a slightly different shade of green nipped in Kate’s tiny waist, and added some dimension to the gown.

Kate’s accessories were as impressive as the dress itself, with the Princess practically dripping in emeralds and diamonds.

She opted for Queen Mary’s Art Deco Emerald Choker, a show-stopping diamond and emerald piece. It was also spotted on the late Princess Diana.

The perfect match for the necklace, the Princess also donned a pair of Emerald and Diamond Halo Earrings mounted in platinum, which appeared to be a new purchase from Asprey London.

A royal favourite designer, Kate wore the Gianvito Rossi Rania 105 Embellished Pumps in silver.

They are also available in pink and white, and retail for €2,100 (around £1,800).

While Kate looked dynamic in her daring look, the Princess of Wales was not the first royal women to experiment with neon green.

Stepping out at Royal Ascot in 2009 – a whole 13 years before – Princess Eugenie donned a huge neon green fascinator.

The royal wore a white pencil skirt with a dark purple blouse, however the standout element of the outfit was her huge fascinator.

The huge headpiece was nothing short of extravagant and fancy, and a real show-stopper at the event.

It was a plate-shaped fascinator that sat on top of her head at an angle, boasting netting and a curled ribbon.

Over the years, Eugenie and Beatrice have been known to rock a fascinator or in Beatrice’s case, popularise the head and hatband.

Despite their royal roles, Kate and Eugenie clearly know how to have fun with fashion and experiment with pops of colour.

Royal fans absolutely loved Kate’s recent neon look, taking to Instagram to praise the Princess.

@the_mountbatten_windsors stated: “One of her best looks to date. This dress wouldn’t look good on many people and she’s clearly not one of them!

“So many unexpected elements. I didn’t know I needed to see her in this shade of green until now!”

@lescarletwoman echoed this statement: “STUNNING. So modern! Absolutely phenomenal.”
