Mind-boggling optical illusion is hidden in MLB logo – are you smart enough to see which way the batter is hitting? | The Sun

THERE is a mind-bending optical illusion hidden within the Major League Baseball logo – but are you smart enough to figure it out?

The Instagram account @opticalillusionss posted the snap, asking puzzled users: "Is the batter in the MLB logo batting right handed or left handed?”

Viewers were left mind-blown and racking their brains when the account asked them what they saw.

The well-known logo sees the silhouette of a baseball batter ready to whack a ball coming towards him.

But in a bizarre shift of perception, the batter could be right or left-handed.

The post quickly racked up thousands of likes and comments from people explaining their theories.

One wrote: “Batting left-handed. Because of the grip on the bat.”

Another added: "Left. If he was battling right, I don’t think you would see his fingers in the position in the photo," and many others agreed that the batter was left-handed.

But several people came forward to argue with the explanation and state that the batter was in fact right-handed.

“Right looking over his left shoulder,” said another person.

Despite the series of comments and theories, it seems that no one has been able to agree on a definitive answer.

So some Instagram users gave up trying and began making jokes instead.

“It’s a bird beak looking at a dot,” wrote one person.

“He’s definitely handed, that’s for sure,” commented another.

But one helpful comment was left by an individual who gave some historical context to the debate.

They said: "The silhouette is meant to be based on Harmon Killebrew, who was right handed. However, the designers made the decision to make the logo ambiguous, so it looks both left AND right handed. Technically both answers are correct".

And despite rumors that Killebrew is the player depicted in the logo, creator Jerry Dior has stated that the logo wasn’t patterned after a specific player.

If you had fun trying to work out this baffling puzzle, why not give these optical illusion games a go.
