FOR any parent, there are few things more frustrating than a stranger pronouncing your baby's name wrong.
So imagine one woman's shock after realising her own husband doesn't pronounce their daughter's name correctly – and there's nothing she can do about it…
A US-based baby name consultant, who posts under the acronym @nameswithsteph, took to TikTok and posted a video where she says: "My husband doesn't pronounce my daughter's name correctly and there's nothing I can do about it…
"I can't explain to you guys how important it is to me that my daughter's name is pronounced Orianna [Ori-AhNa] AND not Ariana [Ari-Anna]."
Steph continues: "…but my hubby is from Scotland and I don't think I listened to him say her name enough when we were considering because we had so many options and we also didn't know if we were having a boy or girl.
"In the UK they tend to drop their jaw more than us anyway especially in the Midwest so he's saying 'Ori-Anna' but I want him to be saying 'Ori-AhNa.'

"And at this point I just have to accept it but here's your advice: Say potential baby names out loud and then get your partner to say them too."
She captioned the post: "Ee definitely laugh about this but sometimes it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. Her name is 'Ori-AhNa.'

The post has since gone viral, racking up over 90,000 views and hundreds of comments.
And, rather surprisingly, many argued it was actually Steph who was pronouncing their daughter's name wrong.

"As someone with an Anna in their name..it would be so much more helpful if people added a 'u' to get that UHN sound," wrote one.
A second commented: "Speaking as somebody who lives in Scotland he won’t be able to produce the 'Anna' sound."
A third penned: "If you look up Ana vs Anna, the general synthesis is that Ana is pronounced 'Ah-Nuh' and Anna 'AN-UH' so your husband is correct according to Orianna."
Meanwhile, a fourth pointed out: "You are saying Onna though! He is right!"
And another added: "My advice to you would have been to spell ori Ana not ori Anna.
"In the UK Anna is An-na like Annie not Ah-na."
