My Karen neighbour wrote an angry letter asking us to use 'indoor voices' instead of disturbing them – I'm so confused | The Sun

A WOMAN has been left bemused after receiving an angry letter from her neighbour complaining about excessive noise from her and her roommate.

Lylina was stunned when she received the handwritten note shortly after moving into the apartment building with her friend.

In the message, the neighbour asked Lylina and her roommate to use their "indoor voices", even when in their own apartment, to avoid disturbing them.

Lylina took to TikTok to blast her "Karen neighbour", before sharing the note she'd received and her response.

"Hello neighbours!" the note began.

"I have lived in this building for two years now and all the neighbours have been very respectful towards one another in terms of using indoor voices when passing on the hallway and in their units as well.

"It's unfortunate that our unit doors are open at the bottom and we can hear everything!

"It's not normal for me to be in my bedroom with the door closed and still be woken up by screaming adults. Please be respectful of others, especially those of us that are sensitive to noise and have to wake up early.

"Additionally, please don't slam your door when you close it. I know it's not soft close, but you can take 10 seconds of your time to slowly close the door.

"I am writing this as a first step to hopefully not have to deal with management.

"You are new to the building and you might think that people can't hear you because you don't hear others.

"You don't hear others because we are quiet. We hope you will be too from now on."

The letter was signed "your annoyed neighbour".

Fuming after receiving the note, Lylina and her roommate then responded by writing: "Dear annoyed neighbour.

"We are truly unfortunate that you are sensitive to loud noises.

"To be fair, we are working professionals and work very hard all day long.

"We only get the chance to talk to each other, as in my roommate and I, when we get home around 6pm. We go to bed at 8pm.

"So anything after that time is not related to us.

"And FYI, we are not your only neighbours.

"To add on, we are very close to our family and have a lot of friends.
Therefore we get visitors often.

"We are aware of our surroundings and are very respectful. On that note, I think it is quite disrespectful on your end to listen to our conversations."

They continued to insist that everyone in the building "blasts music", "shuts their doors" and talks in the hallway… as well as pointing out that everyone else in the building is "Caucasian".

"I do not know why you are coming for us but it seems like you have something against Asians (especially the way you have talked to my roommate's mother)," the letter continues.

"If that's the case, then I'm truly disappointed to be living next to a racist.

"So if you have any problems because of our race, please take your issues to management and we can sort something out.

"Have an excellent time by yourself. I can offer you some books about minding your own business.

"With much respect your kind, Asian and disappointed neighbour".

Despite Lylina clearly posting the letters on TikTok to get people on her side, the slideshow actually had the opposite effect.

And the majority of those who commented on the clip were on the annoyed neighbour's side.

"The neighbour went the non Karen way by just writing a note & not involving management," one wrote.

"Seems mature & normal!"

"There’s only one Karen here and that’s you," another insisted.

As a third said: "You’re the KAREN. I’d be embarrassed to post this on internet just to get called Karen instead. Yikes!"

"Nothing wrong with that letter, you’ve just escalated the whole thing now," someone else sighed.
