The Royal Family has become synonymous with extravagant and lavish accessories, namely tiaras, chokers, brooches, bracelets and earrings. It is rare that royal women step out wearing a plethora of beautiful jewellery.
However, there is one accessory that Queen Camilla simply cannot get behind.
The 75-year-old has never had her ears pierced, nor does she intend to.
This is despite having access to some of the best jewellery collections in the entire world.
The new Queen Consort opened up about her reluctance to pierce her ears in conversation with Vogue in July of this year.
The Queen Consort spoke about the joys of being a grandmother – she has five biological grandchildren and five step-grandchildren – and the fact that they are growing up fast.
The eldest are Lola Parker Bowles, 15, (daughter of Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles) and Eliza Lopes, 14, (daughter of Camilla’s daughter Laura Lopes).
She stated: “The girls are beginning to get into clothes and make-up and, you know, it’s rather frightening when you see them, coming out with pierced ears and a lot of new make-up and funny-coloured hair and stuff.”
Camilla famously does not have her ears pierced, and when asked if her ears would be following suit she revealed: “They are not going to be!”
She continued: “No, I’m not going to give it to myself for a 75th birthday present.”
She added that her grandchildren will attempt to “persuade” her, adding: “but nothing’s going to pierce my ears”.
Instead, Camilla sticks to a pair of clip-on earrings, namely pearl, and a plethora of other jewels. She also has the most incredible collection of statement pearl necklaces.
Just a few of these show-stoppers include The Three-Stranded Necklace with Gold, Aquamarine, and Diamond Clasp and The Five-Stranded Necklace with Pink Topaz and Diamond Clasp.
Her most frequently worn is The Four-Stranded Necklace with Round Diamond Clasp.
Queen Elizabeth II was partial to a pretty pair of earrings and was rarely spotted without her signature pearl studs.
Zack Stone, managing director at Steven Stone, revealed that “one single natural pearl is worth around £3,000”, suggesting that the Queen’s favourite studs were worth £6,000.
However, Queen Camilla isn’t the only woman in the UK Royal Family with unpierced ears.
Princess Beatrice famously also does not have her ears pierced. But this doesn’t mean that she shies away from accessories – in fact quite the opposite.
Beatrice is often spotted wearing a pair of clip-on earrings rather than the real thing.
She is also known for her love of hatbands and headbands instead, rarely spotted at an engagement without some sort of exquisite headpiece.
At Trooping the Colour earlier this year, the Princess wore a huge, sparkly headband which looked to be encrusted with diamonds.
