People are just realizing they're washing their faces wrong – and it means your cleanser is doing nothing | The Sun

A SKINCARE consultant has warned that the majority of people are not using the right method to wash their face.

Mattie Lacey-Davidson claims the common mistake can impact how effective skincare products are on the skin.

Having gained over 50,000 followers on TikTok from sharing her advice, Mattie has become a viral hit on the platform.

She explained the importance of not rushing to wash off products in a video focused on looking after the skin on your face.

“Skincare mistakes I bet you’re making – not washing your face for long enough," she says.

“Think about it, it’s a wash off product so it needs time on the skin to work.

“I always do it for 60 seconds and if I’m double cleansing that’s 60 seconds each.”

The video has racked up hundreds of views with many commenters admitting they are guilty of not spending enough time.

“60???? I do maybe 20 max,” one said with a laughing emoji.

“I usually do about 30,” another chimed in.

“It’s like brushing your teeth! You don’t just slap on the toothpaste and rinse it off immediately,” a third commented.

A fourth shared their method: “Face wash on… brush teeth… wash off face wash.”

A commenter claimed their skin gets dry if they leave products on for too long, while others asked for advice on how to improve the texture of their skin.

Mattie followed up her viral video with a TikTok video detailing another mistake which she has commonly seen.

She says: “Not giving your skin a night off. You don’t need to be using actives every single night.

“Once or twice a week just use really hydrating, nourishing ingredients, and I promise you that your skin will look way better for it.”
